Then get yourself down to Sussex:

2000 tonnes of shipwrecked timber littering coast.

Its been a good year for beachcombers in that part of the world recently, barrels of perfume/oil/wine, crates of beer, even containers carrying tractors and BMW motorbikes washing ashore. I live on a beach in Galway Bay on the west coast of Ireland and we were always finding great stuff (except for the occasional accident/suicide victim), I remember hauling away trailerloads of timber with my father exactly like that pic up there^^^ about 10 years ago but the beach has been spotless in recent years for some reason.

I never knew the UK beaches looked like Missouri after a tornado.

Had this one on my door step ( well eight miles straight out ) last week  :D
http://new.edp24.co.uk/content/news/story.aspx?brand=EDPOnline&category=News&tBrand=edponline&tCategory=news&itemid=NOED14%20Jan%202008%2021%3A57%3A13%3A007

Watched it unfold through the binoculares ( spelling ) . Waves were breaking over its stern . Haisboro Sands are a notorious sand bank off the north Norfolk coast that has seen many ships wrecked over the years .
I've been out there once and broke down  ::)  Did I ever tell you about the time I nearly sunk  ::) ::) http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,1213.0.html

Who do you guys call if you get in trouble at sea?  And, if the rescue guys need rescuing, who would be silly enough to venture out to help you?  :ahhh

Dont want to send this off topic but last year i found this on the beach , its a ships block and it was washed up in a storm . Theres a good chance it came off a ship wrecked on the Haisboro Sands. Theres hundreds of wrecks off our coast .Not sure what I'm going to do with it but its pretty old . I was told by someone who knows alot more then I do that it could be up to three hundreds years old .

And after I cleaned it up a bit

Still looking for treasure though  :(

Very nice find Dunc5, good eye for spotting it with all the barnacles aswell. You should bring it to an expert and see if they have anything to say.

My best beach find apart from all the planks I mentioned earlier that we still use to this day was a battered old canoe thats sitting out in the shed at the minute, I keep meaning to take it out.

I found this fossil the other day though, it stands up by itself so it makes a nice desk ornament:

Thats the beauty of nostalgia, you forget about the little things, like raw, bleeding hands for all that carving and splinters :D

Mind you you've got to wonder what the hell happened to the canoeist ???

A few canoes have turned up on our beach actually, canoeing(is there an e in that?) is a big sport in the bay especially in Galway City on the opposite side to us, plus theres a huge rowing society in the National University of Ireland Galway that teaches a new batch of newbies every year, you could just imagine some clueless student being more concerned about his own life than recovering the canoe when he tips over so in a roundabout way my taxes might have paid for this one, even though I was only 12 or 13 when I found it :D

The best thing I found at the beach was a Timex digital watch when I was about 13...it had a nylon/velcro strap which probably helped it float.  I found it at the very end of the beach where no one plops down and just sits...so I'm guessing it fell off a boat/windsurfer...anyones guess really, but it was in a tidepool among the rocks.  My first real watch!  I still have it actually.  Looks like complete smurf, but I have it.

And a headless shark!  I just remembered, it might have been that very same year, I was 12-14...about 3' long.  A fisherman must have caught it by accident and beheaded it instead of trying to get it back in the water.

I used to have a friend that liked to cut the heads off of fish when he caught them.  For some reason, we're no longer friends :P

What would he do after he took the head off?

If I ever snagged a shark and got it on land before I knew what it was, I still don't think I'd lop it's damn head off.  I'd probably cut the line and find a ten foot pole to roll it back into the surf with!

What would he do after he took the head off?

Well, sometimes he would throw the head and the body back.  Sometimes he would throw them on the ground next to him.  Sometimes, he would leave the head on the hook and try to fish with it... and then there's the joy he got from watching a disembodied fish head's mouth open and close like it was trying to breathe...

I don't need timber now. What I need is 1,100cc BMW Boxer, the big bike used by James Bond.

I found a SAKKO once.

Also a Hobiecat.

I try to stay away from beaches, I love the water, but I'm not a big tourist fan, and no one likes my speedos

The last newsworthy thing to wash up on our coast was the Pasha Bulka

Too bad they didn't release a Director's Cut of that movie that featured only the bits with Dennis Hopper.  Then the movie may not have stunk so much! :P
