Computing in Silence

Recently, I put together a new PC, but I wasn't fully happy with it. Although I used quiet components throughout, there was still a little tinny vibration like sound that I could hear, tiny but annoying. So yesterday, I transplanted everything into this - Coolermaster Sileo 500, accoustically insulated case. I can now work with no distractions.

Vibrations can sometimes be caused by parts that aren't mounted tightly enough (especially fans). Perhaps it was this?

I have two fans on mine, since they are needed in the summer.
One of them is noisy for the first few minutes, untill it warms up.
Still, you can allways hear them working.

In the olden days with floppies and huge sized drives there was so much noise anyway, you did not notice the fans.

lately my PSU fan has been playing up... (some days it also sounds like a 747) Time to consider the options I guess! I was shocked as it's usually the video card fan that's the first to barf followed by other case fans, then CPU then the PSU...

Installed my final mod this afternoon, a Coolermaster H60 water cooling unit for the CPU.

The Corsair H60 kit comes with mounting parts for both AMD and Intel. The radiator and fan mount to a 120mm fan outlet. Really simple to install, took about 10 mins.

I found the stock fan too loud for my liking on full load, so I replaced it with an Akasa Apache silent unit.

On idle, temps are about 21-23 degrees, on full load, up to 39.

My CPU is an Intel Core i7 2600K, o/c to 4.5ghz.
