Vic Vs. Wenger fold out pliers?

The wenger ones look uglier to me, but that is because they incorporate a 'slip lock' head mechanism to allow you to get a better grip on larger objects. So functionally they seem superior.

For people who have used both, how do they compare?

I have had no problems with either, good for small work,if i am soldering 2 wires together i use a small rubber band to form a makeshift vise. For bigger work i use my leatherman.

Thanks for the links Shamus  :tu:, those are threads I have read, but I wanted to have a new thread on current opinions of members on the two, a direct comparison from people who have used both.

Can anyone post pics of how the 93mm alox frame pliers compare to the wenger pliers?

 did I make a mistake in thinking there are any 93mm alox frame pliers? Just doing a search on SAKwiki and google images and I can't find any images of alox models with pliers, in which case, are the 91mm pliers used for mods?

I don't think Vic has ever made a 93mm (Alox) SAK with pliers.

Ya no pliers officially on a 93 mm frame.  Sadly vic only released a VERY few tools on the 93mm platform, but we modders correct for that oversight!

Components Im aware of on 93mm frame from Vic

Large Blade
Small Blade (was on a settler)
Pruning Blade
Electricians Blade
Can opener
Bottle opener
Saw
Long flat driver (technician)
Marlin spike
Reamer

Thats only 10 components total!   And a few of those are long since gone from standard production.
PM me or email sakmodder [at] gmail . com if you are looking for custom SAK work.

And what's the difference between the pliers of the 111mm vs 91mm vics? The 111mm have a nail nick, but there is no much information on pliers size and characteristics.

Except for the nail-nick they are identical.

In general the tools are not interchangeable, and somthing like the pliers or the scissors with the backspring powered handle spring it's even harder.  With enough work anything is possible, but I thnik best to consider this not very likely to be done.

Hmm that is interesting. So Wenger make a 93 mm model, which looks identical to Vic alox models. Are the backsprings or place of the rivets different? Of course, that tool does not have a pair of wenger pliers, but it makes me think that if you can mod a Vic alox to put a pair of pliers on, would it not be possible to mod a Wenger 93mm model to put a pair of Wenger pliers on? And if so, given the similarity between the Wenger 93mm and Vic alox models, couldn't the backspring you would use for the Wenger mod be used on the Vic alox frame?

Lot of hypotheticals, lot of naivety on my behalf no doubt, anyone tried this?

Sounds reasonable, however most Wenger tools are designed to be used on the 85mm frame and probable major modifications might be needed to get them to fit the larger alox frames of either Wenger or Victorinox.

Just a thought, have you looked at some of the pliers attached to Aitor knife frames and how they work. I am no modder but having seen the Aitor models with pliers that are similar to Wenger's Ranger line makes me think someone might be able to do something there.
