Rough Rider with wrench RR1134

This is the Rough Rider RR1134, priced at around $20 which is a lot for a novelty toy.



Its pinned? handles look plastic, though apparently they are bone…
It has brass liners and looks nicely old fashioned.

It comes with:

A wrench,



Blade with ruler with extinct units,



Locking (Linerlock) Screwdriver(..but no locking blade)



with wire stripper and blade area.




Both the screwdriver and the knife blade have half-stops.



The wrench is quite small and has a lot of play, something that I really hate in cheap wrenches. Considering it is attached to the knife by two pins I would not want to us it for any hard tasks as it is likely to come off.
For a Rough Rider product it is not that good. They could have done a lot better.

If you want a knife based multitool with a traditional look then this is for you.

while it's a shame the spanner is of low quality I'm not actually that surprised, especially given the comparatively low cost.  If I wanted a good spanner then I'd be expecting to pay more than $20 for that alone, forget about the knife and screwdriver being attached.

Even compared to my cheap wrenches it is bad... Usually I go through several wrenches, before selecting one, so even my cheap ones are ok.

Yeah I'm a big Bahco fan as well, though I've also got a Crescent one that i really like too.

Rough Rider does make the old Electrician's knife pattern by itself, too, minus the wrench.

I have been looking at these for quite awhile & doing  .
$20 is nothing going by Aussie prices    . I am right with you though on shifting spanners with slop/play , I hates them  .

I think I may well still get one if I am buying something else from a seller that also sells these  .

I've had one of those on my wish list for awhile dks, thanks for the review. You say the wrench head is only attached to the handle with those two brass pins? Are you sure? There are other wrench-knives like this one, and they usually have the wrench head part of the center liner, which runs the entire length of the handle.

It is separate. The liners are brass; the wrench steel. The pins go through the whole knife. One goes through part of the knife spring too.

They could have made it in one piece with the screwdriver spring, if they wanted, though that would have been problematic with respect to the different tempering needed for the wrench and the spring.

The actual wrench head has slight sideplay, as it moves between the liners.
The problem I have with sloppy adjustable wrenches is that usually when you push hard they will let go, by a bit as the top part twists opening up slightly (slack), allowing the wrench to move destroying the bolt head and usually making me hit my hand on something hard and sharp. I do suspect, however, that in this one the wrench head will come off first.
Note that the actual worm screw /thumbwheel is about 2mm smaller than it needs to be for a nice fit, thus moving about with the jaw when it is not locked on a bolt.
As an emergency tool it should work, though it is obviously not designed for hard work.
 I usually use Bahco, but I also have some cheap adjustable wrenches that I hand selected, making sure they had no play or slack.

Well that is indeed a POS design flaw dks. How could anyone screw this up so badly? These wrench/knife tools have been around for almost 100 years, made by numerous firms from numerous different countries, and they are always made the same way, because the design cannot be improved upon: Make The Wrench Head Integral With A Full-Handle-Length Liner
