The New Leather Wave Sheath (pic heavy)
on: February 11, 2012, 08:52:54 PM
Got one of the new leather Wave sheaths in, and thought I would show what it looks like:

Front:

Back (notice no horizontal carry):

Right Side:

Left Side:

Front next to Wave:

Front open:

Front open, Wave inside:

Right side, Wave inside:

Left side, Wave inside:

Accessory pocket (Leatherman did something really great here, they made the part of the pocket against the tool out of nylon webbing and made the outside out of elastic, sewn at the edges. This design holds the tool quite securely, and while this precludes its use for the bit extender, it works much better for lights):

iTP A2 going in:

iTP A2 in all the way:

Fenix E01:

If anyone has any specific questions on the sheath, feel free to ask :salute:

I like that a whole heck of a lot more than that one sheath that was coming out all of their knives for a while that everything smaller than the ST300 always fell out of it carried horizontally.

Looks like it would carry a Blast pretty well.  I may pick one up for the Rebar when it comes out, unless that is what they will be shipping with.  Great pics!!

Kind of between cheap and decent. :-\

It's attractive, and the finish feels good, but it is thin, I'd say about 2/3 to 1/2 as thick as an original PST sheath leather. And the stitching while quite secure, has a haphazard appearance.

Tried some different tools in it:
  • PST - fits loose
  • Kick - fits better, but still a little loose. One with a pocket clip on it seems to fit nicely.
  • Blast - doesn't fit, snap will not close
  • Charge AL - Doesn't fit, snap will not close.

That is one tight fit if the Charge AL doesn't fit.

It is a really nice snug fit, perfectly designed for the Wave.

I'm glad that they are going back to the "sheath made for the tool" philosophy, instead of the "one size fits all" that ends up not fitting anything really well.

Let's just hope they carry the idea though to the rest of their tools...

What about a Surge?  Will a Surge fit in that sheath.  This thing looks nice.

No it won't. :( The sheath will only take a 4 inch tool that is as thin or thinner than the Wave.
