Zai Higo Tool & Knife
on: October 03, 2012, 03:22:31 AM
Designed for the Swiss ski company Zai and Influenced by the traditional Japanese ‘Higonokami’ the Zai Higo follows the same ideology as the Higonokami; keeping their function pure and to one specific purpose.

HIGO (46.42.0.N) is a folding tool containing two different screw driver heads specifically designed for adjusting ski bindings

HIGO (8.52.0.E) is a folding pocket knife for everyday mountain life. Due to their efficient design they can easily be opened, locked and closed with one hand; providing the utmost practicality in challenging mountain conditions

The tools have an automatic locking mechanism aided by hidden magnets ensuring safe handling and storage

The unibody encasing is made from anodized aluminium whilst the tools bits and blade are made from steel.

Very classy design - quite a few other interesting things on that site too, although they don't seem to be for sale?!

I like the simple look of the screwdrivers, but I'm less convinced by the knife.  I'm wondering why they've gone for a tanto style blade?  Not even Higonokami have tanto tips to them and it's not a blade style I'd ever think of when heading into the mountains.  Perhaps the designer just thought it looked cool? :-\
