Shuttle fake, factory error or different model?
on: February 20, 2012, 01:17:37 AM
Just came across this image when going through an old HDD.

Has anyone here came across one of these?
The shuttle image is facing the other way to start with and it looks very different.
Is this a fake? factory error? different model?

I would love to know if anyone has some info.

Some counterfeit versions of the Shuttle models may be in circulation. SAKwiki needs photos if any one has one.  ;)

It is fake.

Here is mine, a real one (purchased 3 or so years ago from a member of this forum):

Looks like the first one pictured has a cork screw instead of a Philips.

I have the original 10-blade Shuttle (top) and a later 11-blade version (adds chisel). Also the VSAKCS 2006 knife (bottom). All of them have the same shuttle, pointing right and with different details from the one above; and all of them have phillips screwdrivers. Its a fake.

The rest of the knife looks genuine but you never know...
I saw one in an album on swissarmyknights.com too BTW.

Wouldnt be the first time there was a new variation out there. Looks real in the photo. Just because its different doesn't mean its fake. That said, I'm not a sak expert. Send Vic the image and ask

Good points. However until Victorinox confirms it I'd be very leery about putting a large amount of money into one.

Interesting.
As I also have a Vintage 80's Shuttle and the newer Japanese Shuttle I can clearly see a difference.
I don't even think the knife in the photo I found is even a Master Craftsman anyway.
I'll keep digging and see what info I can find.

Just found the original photo this came from.

Still cannot find any info on the shuttle with the reversed logo.
One of them has a corkscrew while the other one does not.
I've sent this image to Victorinox.

Interesting!  Keep us informed about what Victorinox tells you about it.  :pok: :pok: :salute:

From that previous thread about fake Shuttles;
Thanks for warning!

From SAKWiki: "Some counterfeit versions of the Shuttle models may be in circulation."
And other notes about no documentation.

The VSAKCS 2006 year model "Astronaut" Club Knife had the "normal" or right facing shuttle inlay but the rear scales had a rectangular inlay indicating it was a club knife for the VSAKCS. When these club knives were first offered the members were only allowed 1 knife at first. Well the club director ended up with quite a few of them extra. After about a year or so he put the rest of them up for sale at $35 US plus S&H. One member(VSAKCS) who I do not know bought several of them and was reselling them on eBay for quite some time. The scales were obviously swapped out and thus fake Shuttles were born right here in the good ole USA. :-[ How so you ask?!! The VSAKCS models had a special tool configuration and the first couple that person sold were exact matches to the VSAKCS model! After some questions I asked them the later ones that were being sold were suddenly much different and no longer would they answer my questions. Also photos were conveniently slightly blurry and angled so a good idea of the tools were not possible without more photos or questions.

Thanks for the info, I had not read that post before.  :salute:
Hopefully I'll get a reply from Victorinox soon.

Not yet. Have just seen the one you posted as well.
I still have not heard anything from Victorinox yet.
All the feedback so far seems to confirm they are fake.
But I still have no more info on them.
