A very moving story and thanks to all.
on: February 23, 2012, 08:51:50 AM
Hello all, I'm new to the forum and it's about 0200 hours here and I'm working a slow night shift so I thought I'd share this story with you. A few years ago I met a family through my work who had a son born pre-maturely and was not expected to live 3 nights, much less 5 years. I stayed close to the family and this boy, he loved my police dog "Ajo" and we visited him frequently. The boy's name was Logan Luka and he recently passed away from complications surrounding his premature birth, he weighed 1 pound 2 ounces at birth.
When the family made me aware that Logan's time was running out I needed to do something more. I convinced my city to make Logan and his younger brother Mason honorary Police Officers. We had a big ceremony, they had custom uniforms, badges and commission cards. I set up a fund in his name and it was all done on the same day as the first ever world premature child day. Logan made it through Christmas and through his mother's birthday in early January but left us a short time later. I've been to a lot of officer's funerals but never one so moving. He was buried in his uniform, with my badge and full Law Enforcement honors. The procession of Police cars alone was a mile long. My reason for sharing this with you is to illustrate that during this journey I met a lot of strangers, none of whom were too busy, too important, or to big to help the smallest among us. In retrospect it reminds me of the many people I've had the pleasure of meeting here. At some time I'm certain that many if not most of you have done something similar to help a child or a needy family, I only wish I would have been a member of this forum while Logan was still alive, wow, that would have been a sight to see. So on behalf of myself, my K9 partner "Ajo" and Officer Logan Luka, thank you all for your good deeds that may have gone un- noticed, they take on a different meaning for me now.
For details about Logan's story please Google Officer Logan Luka and thanks again for letting me get some of this out.

A very moving story indeed. I just Googled his name and read more about his funeral, the memorial fund, etc.

I think it's safe to say that we would have welcomed him here with open arms. In fact, its for folks like him that we keep this place more or less family friendly, despite the occasional lapse.

I'm sad to read the story but glad he had at least some time to see the world and feel love.

Thanks for sharing the story.

I Googled Officer Logan Luka and I was surprised at how many hits there were.  This is a great story, and amazing that you were a part of it.   :tu:

I usually do not come into this part of the forums, and thus this is the first time I am reading your posting.

Thank you for that very moving and ultimately sorrowful story. I did shed quite a few tears while I Goggled the story to find out more.

I thank you for your service, your heart, and your compassion.  :salute:

Chako, thank you for your response and to everyone else as well. I have shared these well wishes with Logan's family and needless to say, they were very moved. It just goes to show what caliber of men and women comprise the demographic here at MT.O.
Thank you again and if I haven't mentioned it before, I frequently look at the photos of your collection and aspire to have one just like it before I leave this earth. Very classy.
Respectfully;
Stew... :cheers:
