I finally got a spork
on: March 08, 2012, 12:51:29 AM
I was at the local workwear store to get a new pair of boots- I didn't get what I was after but I bought the wife some new boots and got myself some new work gloves while I was there.  As I got to the counter I saw they had the Light My Fire sporks there as an impulse buy.

I didn't want to let them down so I bought the orange one.  :D

I haven't used it yet, but I think we need to have some kind of Spork Chili Eatoff or something... :D

I don't think that's really a spork - it's a two ended imposter!

Use it in good health though :D

Oh, I think "spork" is a good name for it... after all, that's exactly what it is... a combination spoon and fork.

Now as for those cheezy little plastic ones you get in box lunches and the like, that's mostly spoon but has those tiny little tines on the end?  That's not a spork... it's more spoon than fork, so they should be called a FOON!  :D

Well, whatever it is, I have been wanting to get one for a while, and I finally did.  I have other sporks, but this is my first Light My Fire one.

They really are good mate, I could do without the serrated edge myself but otherwise it's a very handy bit of cutlery. :tu:

I had a couple of the LMF sporks break on me, and found the serrations annoying when using the fork end, so I got an Esbit Stainless Spork which has been quite good. The spoon bowl is a little shallow though, not particularly ideal for soups

Those are a little hard to find around here in green or orange. How much was yours and can we work something out.

I have several times nearly bought the CRKT eating tool, but I know I am happier with a proper fork and spoon..... maybe one day.

Attempting to respond to public interest, I checked my sources:

I have a contact with the titanium version in stock, the dark green with carry case in stock, the three pack and the four pack.  Unfortunately, no orange.

If anyone is interested in details on the items that are currently in stock, send me a PM.  I will be placing an order with that supplier later today and can easily add a piece or two.  I'm considering a titanium to replace the plastic spoon in my lunch kit.

@Stew- I think it was under $5.  If Travis can't help you I'll be happy to pick you one up.  They had a variety of colors there, but only two blue ones left, so if you need to have a blue one let me know ASAP.

Stay multi my friends

I was at Mark's Work Warehouse, but they also sell them at MEC and pretty well any/all outdoors shops.  I think I've even seen them at Canadian Tire, but I'm not 100% on that.

I'm thinking I should do a chili eatoff with this spork, the CRKT Eat'n Tool and my French Army Bivouac knife.

I think the Bivvy knife is likely to win though.

Heh you have a Bivouac knife too? The only reason I didn't return mine was I don't have a LV store locally and don't want to bother with mailing it. The $5 knock off version is just as good or better.

Must've missed that one, interesting to know it's the actual army issue knife.

I wouldn't be so annoyed if I paid $15 or $20 for it, but for $35 I expected better. Although as eating instrument it beats pretty much anything else with the almost full sized separate spoon/fork.

I think that was the point.  I've yet to find a hobo type knife that can compare to this one when it comes to actually using it to eat.

We've got four of the big LMF jobs, my boys won't use anything else when camping.  They'd love the GITD version but nine quid... for a spork  ::)  I don't think so!

I've also got a little blue version that Gareth gave me last year.  He'll be pleased to hear it does get used  :)
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

I am indeed. :D  I do like the mini version they do, does away with the annoying serrations for one thing. :tu:

Try using the spoon end :pok: ::)

Honeycomb cereal is larger than the spoon rendering it kind of useless.  Honeycomb's big, yeah yeah yeah, it's not small, no no no.

i bought 6 or so LMF sporks in orange cause if you are going to pay for postage to australia on a two something dollar item you might as well cover the weight cost.

I thought great, presents and i'll stash one in the car, in the laptop bag etc etc. After using it for all of two minutes i have to conceed what my mother said on the matter when her partner bought one at retail as wisdom. Its far cheaper and easier to use a set of plain jane* plastic cutlery from takeway/party on hiking trips... and it weighs all the same. I think they suck to the über. Today i dug one out of the kitchen drawer and ate my cereal with it. Wasn't that bad but i wouldn't recomend it to anyone.

Sometimes i find myself wanting a Knives of Alaska titanium Hobo set. Now thats must be the maseratti of hobo knives  :o rrp$65 for 2.7 ounces

I have a Kabar set.. somewhere... its ok but was disapointed to find out it was made in china.

I have one of these, guess its a knock off, as it doesn't have the 'Bivouac' logo on the blade, will add a pic asap :tu:

I really like the Linder Picnic. I like how the knife, fork/bottle opener, and spoon are detachable from each other. I have tried it once, and loved it instantly.
