84mm scissors
on: March 26, 2012, 05:56:20 PM
Anyone try wenger 84mm scissors on a 84mm Vic? Does it work? Or do they make 84mm wenger scissors?
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

2.5mm holes from memory, couldn't see why it wouldnt work, maybe the nail knicks might be an issue.

Whats really interesting is that the wenger aluminium spacers outer two blade holes line up with 84mm victorinox, the two inner backlayer holes also can line up but cant get all 4 holes to line up at the same time.  Shame as then it would almost be a case of swapping complete layers

No, they are not, wenger uses bigger pins.

Sorry about the bad pic, it's 3,20 am here and I should be asleep :ahhh

Here's a pic of Wenger 85mm and Vic 84 mm blades.

I dont have any loose Wenger scissors to try but I do have some Vic 84mm scissors to try it the other way around. I'll do it in a day or two if it's not too late.

Wenger 2.5mm Holes  :pok: :pok: :pok:
Victorinox (84mm) 2.2mm holes  :pok: :pok:

The holes line up in the liners (called them spacers earlier... couldnt think of the word liner  :bnghd:)... not the same diameter.. but the two outer holes line up OR the two inner holes for the backlayer.. but the backlayer is offset so you can't line up all 4 holes at once

wooohooo my english is coming back to me  :woohoo:

Should of just taken a photo

:D well I did say it was late.

You were talking about these holes. The middle ones are the problem for a straight liner swap.

Do the back springs differ?

I took apart a Wenger today and here are the pics comparing the Wenger 85mm and Victorinox 84mm scissors.

The pivot holes are aligned, the wenger having a 2.5 and the vic 2.2 mm holes. As you can see, not an easy swap. You would have to grind of quite a bit off of the wenger scissors and that's the easy part. The part on the back of the scissors where the backspring rests/locks the scissors in open position is shorter on the Wenger. I put it back together so no more pics. But feel free to ask if any of you have any more questions.

How do the back springs differ? I might have to take one of mine apart to find out. Do Wenger scales go back on? I have poor luck with Vics.

You can't use wengers backspring cause of the middle hole, and the victorinox spring is a bit shorter on the end where the scissors go.

As for the Wenger scales, MUCH better than the Victorinox. I took my white pair off and on about half a dozzen times and they still fit perfectly.

I have never taken a Wenger apart. Do the rivets work the same as Vics? I am just going to have to jump in.

No completely different principle. The pins are pinned to the liners, like to the scales on the alox models, so without the extra bushings, and the scales attach to three attachment points, raised parts of the outside liners, you can see them on one of my previous pics. I actually find modding Wengers easier than Vics, I don't understand why more people don't do it. In the last year or even more, the only ones that I've seen doing Wenger mods have been Rahmed and I. And I find Wenger has a much cooler tool selection to choose from.

Id love to get my hands on more wengers but they are very scarce over here and ordering even the entry models costs way way more than vics do thats why I dont have many.  I have the wenger with nail clippers and that cost what 2 alox pioneers would.

You need parts? I've got parts. :D (also a better pic of the outside liners with the scale attachment points in the lower right corner)

I understand your problem. I can't get any Wengers around here any more. There are a couple of shops on line that still sell them here, but they are way overpriced. I try to find used ones in good condition on ebay for parts. I'm still kicking myself for forgeetting to bid on a Wenger Nomad two weeks ago. Locking blade, universal wrench and phillips for a little over 10usd with international shipping. :ahhh
