What's the status of the group buy

Well I have been carrying and using this one almosty exclusively since I got it and I have a few thoughts.  Not a full review yet, but some thoughts.

Sounds like a well thought-out tool, the best thing I've seen outta SOG in quite a while. Even better, it's a fairly unique form factor. Me likey! :tu:

I am sure that as soon as Travis has any info he'll post it.

But I suppose it couldn't hurt to give him a little  :pok:, so I'll go and do that now.   >:D

The latest word is, that there is no word.  I have been expecting contact from Chris@SOG with an update on availability and pricing.  He has been emailed and I hope to hear something on Monday.

I just checked the SOG website and they show the PowerDuo as "out of stock".

I will indeed post when I have some news.  In the past Chris has been very up front with us, so I expect nothing different this time around.

It should be happening, although I haven't heard any details yet.  Travis may be along soon enough to fill in any info he has.

I have been wondering that myself.  I think they could be replaced, but I'm not certain what you could put in to replace what's there.

I have a few extra SOG bits lying around so I'll give it a shot.

Def

Did you manage to try this out? Am wondering if a scissors would go into it.

I forgot to ask earlier Def, but does the quality of this seem the same as the powerlock and other SOG MTs?  I just realized this is the first of their MTs fully made in China.  The other MTs say assembled in the US but dont say where the parts are all from.

You wouldn't be able to put scissors in it as they are too ling and would stick out.

The quality seems decent enough. I have been using it for some time now and it's shown no problems.  It doesn't feel like a Powerlock or Power Plier but then those are heavier tools. It feels reminiscent of the PPP but a little different because of the larger handle and plastic scales.

Def does your PowerDuo's knife blade have much resistance too opening . That is do you think you could open it, in this crazy arsed fashion

My Fisher Space .338 cartridge pen has been seized by Aussie customs  ??? ??? & my name is on a Aussie customs watch list as a result  >:( >:( >:(. I had hoped the matter would of been resolved weeks ago with a permit being issued too me for my pen, post seizure.Being a bullet cartridge I need a type of firearms permit, WTF with cheese on top >:( >:(. My permit from the South Australian Police is taking a VERY long time to be posted to me. I had hoped to be given my ridiculous permit , picked up my pen & had my name removed from the watch list 2 weeks ago.I am a little concerned that A)I am on a watch list & B)any OHO knife I buy from overseas is going to get extra special 'treatment' from Oz Customs.
I hope the PowerDuo's blade opening does not fail the nutso Oz customs flick knife test.

I was just looking at bullet pens too and thought they looked pretty cool.

Well, Mat is a well known public danger ever since the Great Rash Of Nose Forkings of '08...

I don't believe the knife blade would open up that easily doing that test, although there isn't a lot of resistance on the blade itself.  The backspring is actually quite interesting in that it acts more like a ball detent- it holds the blade shut so it won't accidentally open, but as soon as the blade is pushed open deliberately it rotates very smoothly and easily.

I'll try to get a video of my doing the flick test to see if it passes.  More than likely someone will lose an eye to the pliers flying open than the knife though.

It is a stock standard response Oz Customs gives people when they seize a item , waving the stick at naughty people  ::) ::). When I got the letter I thought , 'Ok what knife/MT has gotten me in trouble'  . I was gob-smacked that it was the pen they had seized. CRAZY+++.

Thanks Def  .Yep I have 'launched' a knife once or twice doing the customs flap/test  ::) :ahhh :ahhh.

I hope I can get my pen un-seized & my name of the watch list BUT I bet once your name is upon such things it never comes off  ::) ::)

All the SOG arc lock knives I own (spec elite, access card etc) will flick open like that.  Are they all banned in aus then, or do you see them in stores?

WTF happened to common sense.

Yep arc locks are now banned as far as I know. You can still buy 'flipper' knives from some Aussie sellers , I am fairly sure it is from stock that was in the country before the new laws came into effect  .Flipper blades prices have been on the up since the new laws came into effect  ::) ::).

Common sense is decidedly uncommon I have found in my experience  :( :( :(

I've just handled one; it's an interesting tool.  The knife and tools did remind me of a Victorinox OHT, albeit the tools are a bit less polished, in my opinion.  Some initial observations I had were the knife blade is hard to disengage due to the tool handle, likewise, the tool lock, while effective, I still had some reservations concerning it.

The toothpick looked alright, but the tweezers are as good as those on a cheap Chinese SAK knockoff. :/

You wouldn't be able to put scissors in it as they are too long and would stick out.

Would any of the other standard SOG tools fit, Def?

The SOG site doesn't list any of the spares as being compatible with the PowerDuo, not even the ones that come on it! I hope they've just neglected to update the site...

With these things being on the cusp of availability, I'm seriously thinking about getting one, but that can opener would be dead weight to me.

Well, in it's defense, it doesn't weigh much!  Plus it has the small screwdriver tip which is much more useful (in my opinion at least) than the can opener.

The Power Duo pretty much single handedly changed the flasher relay in my Jeep today.
