Crossbow stamp - which ones?
on: March 29, 2012, 03:34:24 PM
Hi all, I have a question about the crossbow stamp, here it is;

Is there a reason the stamp is on some knives and not others?

I have several Classics, an '08 Soldier, a Vic Rucksack and Huntsman, but the only one I own with the crossbow stamp is my newly aquired Vic Recruit.

I have to say, I like the stamp, and was very pleased when I saw it on my Recruit.

The crossbow was taken off the tangs in the early-mid 2000's (I recall seeing 2003 listed somewhere but don't quote me on that).

The other side of the tang was also changed from "Victorinox, Switzerland, Stainless, Rostfrei" to "Victorinox, Swiss Made, Stainless".

I believe the width of the tang was also slimmed down as a cost-cutting method.

The crossbow is a symbol of quality only available to manufacturers that meet the highest quality standards. Wenger knives have that too.

But why don't all of them have it then?

This makes sense, but the link to the crossbow symbol is from 2009.

Actually my newer Victorinox doesn't hv them. Maybe Victorinox left the association. Why not fire a mail to Victorinox? They are very pleased to answers question like these.

I think that the stamp was awarded by the government and they lost it, thus they are not allowed to use it...  ???

I am sure I will be corrected soon by the SAK expert here.

I think they quit using the crossbow because too many people thought it was an umbrella.

I bought one of those Umbrellas in black for my wife and it is pretty nice. Never had one with a partial self closing feature too!

That. Years ago I found out it's actually a crossbow after searching for "swiss army knife umbrella".

I miss the crossbow too. I save them whenever I come across them for use in special projects.

I agree - I was  strangely pleased to finally get one! It's a great little symbol.
