Well, I didn't know this, never even thought of using it for that, this is from an instruction book for a Vic Swiss Champ :tu:

The Vic can opener is a great tool. There are so many times you need "a thin blade which is not too sharp", and apart from the watchmaker blade on the watchmaker and giant models, and the orange peeler on the Executive, there really aren't too many tools that really fit the bill.

I have little time for tricky fruit.  If it peels easy then that's good but if not I just cut it into quarters and suck its guts out  >:D
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

Interesting.  Never realized that.  Somehow I doubt it works as well as the dedicated peeler on the Executive.  (I use mine regularly.)  It really bugs me when I'm peeling an orange and the skin breaks and you end up with juice on your hands...  :P  Doesn't seem like the can opener is going to give you a lot of control over the depth of your cut.

I just don't believe it could work very easily.  I'd prefer the dedicated orange peeler.

I just tried it on an orange. It works, sort of. The lack of edge rips the peel instead of cut, which combined with the short length spill juice (from peel, didn't damage the fruit) all over the knife. Probably won't do it again as my experience shows dried fruit juice gunks up pivot like no other.

13. Orange peeler to cap lifter
Maybe you consume more beer than oranges. And it is easier to
open an orange than a bottle with your teeth. You also may have discovered
that the Executive model carries well in the bottom of the back pocket of
your blue-jeans, below a folded bandanna. ((MacGyver used this model to
disable a bomb on a cruise ship. Way trimmer than the Compact; tougher
and more tools than the Classic, which is for Suits or girls anyway.) To
make the orange peeler blade usable as a cap lifter, deepen the notch at the
base of the scalloped edge with a small triangular file or a hacksaw or a cutting
disc to make a triangular point here. Now, positioning the SAK vertical
above the bottle, you can use this point to pry up between each dent of the
pressed-on bottle-cap until it can be removed. Not as fast as the real thing
(phhhht!) but a cold beer is worth a little patience. (Ahhhh!)              SAKOM
