Victorinox Imitation or WTF ... :D
on: April 13, 2012, 09:21:11 PM
This knife's been at home for ages... Is it some cheap attempt at Victorinox or what? Any ideas? lol. The blade's always been sooo blunt and as I'm not that much into knives, I never really tried to sharpen it or sth. It's barely used, anywa. Just occurred to me to post pictures :D

No offense, but that's a very crappy knock-off ;) Probably made in China.

Yes, plenty of them on eBay.

The scissors are especially ugly.

There's something annoyingly familiar about that logo, I think that brand has been distributed in Norway as well.

It's either a Sharp or Imperial.

Not the worst, but not good either. I have an old Sharp brand one from the 80s. I keep it in my work toolbox, and have no guilt about it. ;)

I don't believe it is by Imperial or Sharp, who made decent but inexpensive knives.  The scale logo although inlaid brass is typical of a type made by a firm in China; also typical of the chinese are the scissors nubbin (for the nail-nick) and the cr---y steel.  No tang stamp?

I had one with that exact same logo when I was a kid, probably sometime in the late '80s early '90s.  Even back then I could tell it wasn't as good as my Vic.

A bad seller rating won't help your cause.

Release it into the wild. Just leave it sitting around somewhere a kid wont find it. Or give it to a hobo.

Lol, why a bad rating? ;) Selling things on auctions is one of my hobbies :D I use only the auctions in my country, though, because the taxes they charge are smaller. I always describe the products in the best way I can, take as many pictures as people want and do anything for them to get the right impression about an item I sell. I've never claimed this was a SAK and will never do ;) I put a low price and everyone in their right mind will guess it isn't real. I don't see why people, who've bought old bottles, second hand shoes, clothes & wallets, for example, (and many more cheap knives, btw) won't buy this thing, too, lol.

NNR - I didn't notice you were outside the US. Is that the Mexican flag?

I guess if it works for you, then go for it. Here in the US, real Victorinoxes are selling used for under $10, so there's no point in messing around with cheap copies.

No, the Bulgarian  :P You can figure out the flags by just hovering over them with the mouse :D

As for the other countries, yeah, that's why I don't use eBay- the things I sell are usually so inexpensive (so that people prefer them [plus they pay the shipping] over new stuff) that what I earn would be enough only to cover the taxes, lol. Moreover, may be no-one will buy that knife for months or years :D I just enjoy "having trash for sale" :D

I tried clicking on the flags to find out what was what, and when that didn't work I bookmarked a fancy site that lets me plug in colors and features to figure out which flag it is. Nothing like doing things the hard way.
