BHK Anyone?
on: April 18, 2012, 04:03:54 AM
Anyone here have or use blind horse knives? I got my first one Saturday and so far I'm very impressed. Seems to be a wonderful knife and semi custom I believe from what I'm reading. If you have one, have any opinions, or any knowledge about them please share. As normal pics are always more then welcome.

Yeah wifey and I have one each, BHK Bushcrafter in maple. Don't have pics of our knives, but I put some from Tim Stetzer on http://www.knifewallpapers.com ages ago (with permission)

Teehee :D Mine is the same except it's got a black coating on the blade, don't really know why (for ninja spec-ops no doubt). When's the next meetup, it's crazy that we've not met in person yet!

there was some very nebulous talk of it being in August/September and near Aylesbury.  Nothing written in stone though.

2. A blind horse maverick scout and a snap knapp. I like both, good knives at a reasonable price. If you catch them during the monthly special then they can be a real bargain.

Here is the snapp knapp and maverick scout

with my current favorite, Koster Bushmaster

My problem with the snapp knapp is the metal grommet that sticks through the leather. Its very easy for the edge of the blade to catch the grommet upon closing (and it has), this results in dulling the edge.  If you want a knife compact knife as a backup and don't plan on opening and closing it much, then it will be fine.

Next item on the list to buy: Bark river bravo1 in 3v (rampless). :)

I didn't know they were all convex until after I bought mine. So now I've purchased the KSF strop and compound.  ::)

Bah, convex is overrated.

BHK seems to be popular with the bushcraft crowd, I've looked at their website but nothing really calls to me, and they are on the expensive side.

I like that there made 2 hours from me.  :D I'm planning a factory tour in a month or so if all works out. I contacted LT and he said give him 30 days since the shop is in the moving process and then we will for sure work something out.

The bushcrafter was $100 when it came out which really was a no-brainer and likely contributed greatly to their popularity. As they're getting more popular they're able to charge more, which is perfectly reasonable. A shame, but reasonable.

They are great quality knives though, make no mistake.

Glue a patch of thin leather over the snap. A piece cut from an old wallet will work fine. I've seen that done on factory made gun holsters and knife sheaths...I've done it myself too.

I used to have a patch knife, which I stupidly traded....  :twak:

I seriously regret that now.

You can see pictures of it that I posted here.

I really liked that knife.  I thought it was well made, had a good balance and feel to it.
