Voice choice on your GPS?
on: April 22, 2012, 11:24:46 PM
What voice did you choose for the GPS in your car? We bought a Garmin unit for ourselves for Christmas. After some experimenting with various voice options, it was clear to both the wife and myself that a female voice was preferred. (although I'm sure our reasons were somewhat different) ;) But the American girl sounded a bit too much like an acquaintance of ours, and the British gal seemed altogether too pushy. Not to worry though, as we both liked the soothing tone of "Karen" the Australian Female choice. :)

And now I've just found a vid of Karen on youtube: :)

So what voice is on your GPS?

The Norwegian voices on my Tomtom was crap so I went for the Swedish girl instead, but I also got Darth Vader in there when I am feeling nerdy :P
There is no problem that cannot be solved by the use of high explosives.

For my sister's TomTom I chose "Simon", the original British-English TT voice. I felt that Simon's authoritative accent would give an air of urgency to his directions. It's amusing to hear him mispronounce the Native American street names hereabouts. But then again he's no worse than many of our natives...

Amici,
I've been using a Magellan for a few years with no real issues although I do need to get around to updating the maps by downloading to the unit online.

Cheers,
Serge

I use the British female voice on mine.  I dig it when she tells me what to do :tu:

Mikey's unit needs a whip and a leather outfit and it would be perfect!  :P

And she must be wearing glasses and have her hair in a ponytail...

Um... excuse me for a minute... I need to be alone.

The unit in my Mom's Mercedes is voice controlled.  Unfortunately for the car, it can't seem to understand her!  Mom's accent is a mix of Brooklyn, Long Island, and New Jersey and it drives the poor GPS nuts!  :)  It is fun to listen to her and the car go at it, I guess the unit is lucky it also doesn't understand Italian profanity!
