As much garlic as we use you'd think we should have it in the garden.  Nice bunch of garlic David.   :like:

Harvested all my onions and potatoes. Not bad for 4 raised beds.

Just carrots, parsnips and French beans left in them now.  Squashes are doing well to.

Don't have any in our garden, alas. We do have a lot of overgrown shrubbery, courtesy of a wet summer. So we did some cutting today, about two thirds done now, one quarter of the resulting volume see the pic (along with tools used - Sync may recognise the middle one - thanks again, works a treat!  :salute: )

Do you compost?  I have been maintaining my compost pile now for a few years.  Its have generated some very good soil.  I am now trying to compost in a bin to see how it goes.

Yes we do, but this volume (it turned out to be 7 of these folding buckets altogether) exceeds our capacity. I'll let the city compost most of this  ;)

The knife feels really good in the hand but I have yet to actually use it for any cutting beyond a little bit of playing around. Cutting jobs so far have been smaller and the garden variety ones have been admirably absorbed by various foldable blades such as on the Surge or ST. Next garden job I'll remember to tuck it on my belt :D

One of the top priorities when we searched for a place to buy was to have a garden, even if it’s a small one. It’s the fourth year we’ve been taking care of this garden and I have made some improvements with time. Last thing I did was to put this 40% shading net, as heat became extreme in the past decade or so and with that raining ice (not sure how it’s called in english) became more regular too. So hopefully our tomatoes and cucumbers will last longer this year and will feel better. Don’t mind the messy wine vine in the back  :D The previous owner decided they should have it over the shed so if I want to tend it I should walk on the roof of the shady shed. I’m not risking it since the thing isn’t in great shape. The rest of the vines are good though.

(Image removed from quote.)

So it's autumn now and since everything is harvested it's time to draw the line and see how we did. The shading net definitely worked well, our tomatoes were alive long after the neighbor's dried out. Soon after the net I also placed dripping lines which made the cucumbers feel really well and gave good harvest. The tomato harvest was modest at best, we did not put any fertilizer this year because I didn't have time to go get the natural, animal stuff and did not want to use the store bought with all the chemistry inside. Turned out that this wasn't the greatest idea because the soil isn't really rich around here. Well, lesson learned.
The surprise of the season were the grape vines. That messy thingy over the shed was exceptionally generous this year, with about 100 kg of grapes just out of that single one. I believe the reason for that is the dripping lines I set for the cucumbers, they were like 20-30 cm away from the vine. So I went and bought a grape press and needed to buy a second container because the one I got wasn't enough by just a bit. Wine is fermenting now. Here are several shots

I moved to a new place in early September. I wanted to plant a vege garden and my housemate was sick of mowing a particular area of 'lawn'. So... before and after shots:

Above: zucchini/courgettes, tomatoes (some sort of cherry/bush) at back with basil, lettuce and sage in front.
Sorry it's a bit hard to see with the shade.

Above L-R: lettuces, coriander (going to seed), silver beet, beetroot, broccoli and caluiflower, more beetroot and broccoli.

Above L-R: tomatoes (Money Maker), dwarf beans, capsicums, corn and cucumber (at back).

The fencing is meant to deter the dog.

 :hatsoff:

I have been harvesting lettuce,  coriander and basil for a while now, courgettes and silver beet since a week or so ago and tonight I had the first broccoli, which was very thoroughly inspected for caterpillars!

When I started the garden I dug a section at a time (first along the fence, then one square, then the other) and would have liked to have worked each over more but I just had to plant the seedlings I had bought ASAP as they do better in the soil no matter how rough it is rather than getting held back in their punnets.

I need to finish cutting back that overgown ivy at the back....

I have standards to hold up to as I was born and raised in rural environment  :D
Update on the backyard garden situation - the wine is ready, I am pleased with the results. Also the shed is now home to 6 hens that in the past few weeks have laid 6 eggs every day.

Bees are buzzing.  I've got birds visiting the bath daily.  I left the weed since the flowers were pretty.

Thanks Kev.  I am a horrible photographer but my flowers are so pretty I was inspired.  The orange flower is our state flower, poppy.  I have a few more scattered about.  The orange is so vibrant and brings a huge pop to the garden.

Hows the beds doing?  And how are you my friend?

I'm good thanks, how are you?

The beds are just starting to sprout, another week or two and there should be green shoots everywhere.

So exciting.  Every little shoot the breaks the soil is very rewarding.  I'm well thank you.  I'll snap a picture of a really cute "greenhouse" my lovely partner got me.  I like to start plants from seed if I can and made some ugly contraption.  She surprised me with the "greenhouse".  You'll understand when I post the pics why I'm adding quotes.   :D
