Ueli Steck Wenger Titanium Line: Thoughts?
on: May 11, 2012, 10:28:54 PM
Amici,
Although their prices have seemed to come down a little, has anyone either purchased or handled one the Ueli Steck modles from the Wenger Titanium line?

Personally I'm extremly tempted, but before I make a decision,  I'm waiting for the word to come in. Does anyone think that either one of these models could fit the bill when it comes to bushcraft or strickly a specialty knife and therefore limited in it's overall uses.

Cheers,
Serge

I've only seen one in a shop window, and my feeling is that for the price they can smurf it!I think the lack of posts about them here must say something
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

A local store has it for $105, seems a large chunk of the price is associated with the name. The $80 titanium 2 with a saw might be better suited for bushcraft. I thought about it before but unless you really want it for collection there are better ways to spend the money.

I picked up a couple of the Titanium series for the collection, but have no practical experience with them. I suspect an S557 or one of the Rangers such as 73 or 58 would be a lot more useful and cost a lot less.

A SwissTool Spirit might be the most useful of all in a wilderness situation. Very rugged, strong pliers, and no small parts to lose.

I was thinking about making the same question!! I've thought about it and it probably performs well for a climber. Heard some people saying it is good EDC option but for the price and considering other offerings from Wenger I would say not the best option for bushcraft. I may be extremely wrong though.

Amici,
My thoughts exactly on the bushcraft side, once I recollected my thoughts, I thought it may be OK as an EDC option. Despite the price, the unusual blade shape plus the titanium scalles I find to be quite tempting..

After abuying this model from Felinevet.
http://www.wengerna.com/titanium-2-16998
Unlike other models meant for the field use, the Titanium line is more "mission specific".

Personally, if Wenger is listening out there, If they put the blade and "guts" of an Evogrip 18 between those titanium slabs.  Then they'd have a true winner :tu:

High price and few tools but must be useful wrench-wise for changing the blade on an ice axe or adjusting friends or something rock-technical-like.

I'm tempted by the same reasons! I hope this helps:

It's a really long video but it may give you some insight.

That's a pretty good video, a little too chatty so it runs a little long.

I was tempted too, until I saw that the wrench cut-outs in the blade are odd sizes that I'm not likely to need. They should make a non-sponsored version (cheaper) and with more common sizes of wrench, such as 6, 8, 10, and 12mm. Or include a bigger version of their wrench from the S557.
