Couldn't find the piece to attach this guys arm. So I modified a knockoff Lego piece from a Lego advent calendar. Worked like a charm.

I noticed an old heirloom United electric clock (manufacturing date of June, 1964 on the inner plate) had stopped working when I plugged it in again (hadn't been more than a year since it was last used), and I took it apart to see what was wrong.

Firstly, the insides were full of goop (hardened oil that had, effectively, turned to varnish) and dirt.  Also, I'm not sure of the condition of the motor--that's to be tested. Cleaned it as best I could without an ultrasonic cleaner, and will let the Ballistol I used to clean out the goop serve as a temporary lubricant.

Redid the connection between the movement motor and power cord. My Engineer scissors can strip larger-gauge wiring, but not the tiny stuff. Ended up grabbing my Squirt EL out of the EDC box and using the 20 GA notch. I still wish teenage me had bought one of those new at Radio Shack, as it's come in so handy for hobby electrical work over the years.

Pretty sure it's the motor. I had already planned to replace the whole movement with a battery-powered unit, but need to take some measurements. I'm hoping the cheap Hobby Lobby one I can get locally fits, but I may have to order a special size online. Got to go to Lowe's tomorrow, and I'll pick up some CRC contact cleaner while I'm there.

Well done Cody!  I never knew Radio Shack sold anything like that.

Well done Cody!  I never knew Radio Shack sold anything like that.

I remember them in the bigger mall-based store in the next town over as a kid and teen--about $40, so pricey compared to what I could afford back then. And they didn't move that fast, so they were likely pretty old then. I bought this one used on Ebay 7-8 years ago for $25.

Date code inside the handles says 2007, which fits into the time period when I started noticing it in the store.

On another note, that mall-based store is still empty, about a decade later.  The one in town I don't think even closed--it became a Sprint cellphone store, and was rebranded to T-Mobile when they bought Sprint. Sucks, as that's where my Granddad and I got all kinds of various bits for projects around the house. Heck, they even got me into RC as a kid when ZipZaps came out. There's one left about an hour from here--only because it was a franchise, and they heavily specialize on electronic bits.

They were big in our lives too.  I think my father in law lived there!  I learned about personal computers on a TRS-80!  They're still around online, but it's not the same thing.

The prices went up a great bit since you got yours!

The Rebar "M" was used to reassemble my patio bench, after remaking the slats.   [ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

And an "end table" to go with the bench. Rebar filed rough threads on ALL 9 screws, and screwed them on using a std bit adapter (but "adapted" to fit the bit exchanger(remember when that was thing!?!); this time it was not just "screwing around"!    [ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Lots of rain and very windy.  Walked down my driveway with brush removal tools and Wingman.  The pole cutter is a great walking staff, by the way.  Small stuff like dead tree limbs and vines are easy to toss out of the way using it.  If they aren't too big.  Going back to sub-freezing temps again this week.  It was sunny when I decided to check the driveway.  A cold wind when I left the house.  Then I got rained on as I walked back.  I try not to walk down there in high winds.  Too dangerous.  Best wishes.  G

My son demands a fire truck.  Surge blade cut the cardboard from carton. Wire cutter cut the disposable  chop stick and bamboo sticks. Scissors cut the disposable paper straw and string. He color it.

It is sent to service at his kindergarten.

The decals are pvc tapes cut to shapes on cutting mat. It is pretty easy once you get a hang of it. The matt beneath is also made from a large black cardboard and pvc tapes.

I used my Skeletool to remove doors from out of service fire extinguisher cabinets. Pretty exciting, huh? ::)

I didn't take any photos but I used my new Arc to change out some hardwired smoke detectors for my father in law on Saturday evening, used it to undo a tight knot in my daughter's jump rope yesterday afternoon, and then also used it to cut and twist some wire to fix the broken spring in my recliner seat that was a result from my daughter using it as a trampoline. I've only had it since Friday but I'm loving it so far!

My ST300 was used to extract the sensor/transmitter for wireless sensor for front door entry.

Removing the VGA nuts from the thinkpad x220 with a PST. Take it apart completely as it was roach infested when left at the office of my ex-employer. I kept the 220 with the dock sealed in the same plastic bag for 6 months already. And there are still dead tiny baby roaches found. Now the x220 has no trace of roach. I suspect it's the dock...

I don't know how long it takes to starve all of them to death. May be I will take apart the dock the other day. They are now sealed in separated bags.

Sounds nasty!

I think I’d be fixing that with paraffin, a match, and an insurance claim.
