Just wondering what kinds of edges people like in a general utility or EDC tool.

I voted plain edge, but i would be quite happy with one of each if i didn't mind the extra weight. But a plain edge does just about every task i ask of a knife most days. If i know i'll be around a fair amount of ropes then i would carry a serrated.

Got to be plain edge, a plain edge will do everything I need, plus it's an absolute doddle to maintain the edge :)

In case anyone's missed any of my previous post's, I hate serrations ;)
Give in, buy several Farmer's!!!!!!

I've voted for a multitool with both types seperate, plain and serrated. Micky, what about when you're needing to cut tough rope/fabric... bet you'd be begging for a serrated then ;) :D

I think he'd rather chew his way through that be seen carrying a serrated blade.  :P

For some reason I always answer this question Half'n'Half, and for some reason, I always actually carry a Plain edge.

Anyhoo, with today's fabulous tech, I don't really have to choose, I can have both or more.

I used to be a "plain edge only" kinda guy, but carrying an OHT increased my appreciation for a serrated edge.  I still like to keep them separate though, so I voted for "one of each".

I like the Swisstool for this reason, and wish I had a standard one instead of the "X".  I also really like carrying the Safari Hunter with its plain edge and serrated gutting blade combination.

I'm a plain edge kind of guy but I voted for serrations near the tip because the OHT makes such an excellent cutting tool and has been supplanting my regular folder.

Plain edge, although there are some exceptions.  The OHT is one; very well done blade design.

I like one of each at least 3'' long. Like my Gerber 600. The ser blade is good for rope and the straight is a good all around blade and easy to sharpen.

In a regular knife though i like half and half. Especially a good survival knife needs to have a little of each.

Plain edge. Mainly for the fact is that if you're miles from civilization and you don't have a dedicated sharpening tool it's a hell of a lot easier to sharpen a plain edge with stuff you may have near you. Like a ceramic coffee cup or even a smooth piece of granite or sandstone. Of course this can be prevented by carrying the proper sharpener but I would probably lose at the precise moment I needed it.

If I could,I'd have one dedicted blade of each. But like  some others here the blade of the OHT would more than satisfy me.

If I couldn't have one of each I would have to choose a PE 'cause it is suitable for a wider range of uses and far easier to sharpen
