Although I always feel guilty about it, I use this Rebar most days now instead of the PST my dad gave me (although I usually have both on me). Having a serrated (utility) blade, saw, ability to use multiple bit types with the adapter OR my hacked bit exchanger, and the usefulness of the Volty Switch makes this an amazing tool. I'm not a scissors or micro driver guy and like the old school Leathermans, so this is pretty much my ultimate multitool for every day and camping/survival use.

EOD cutters are inbound for it too. Woo hoo!

Oh, definitely.  When I decided to get a new Leatherman for my gig at the Y (and I'm sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo glad I don't have to do that anymore  ), I put a comment on TX Tool Crib's latest video at the time. Ben was nice enough to reply and suggested that since I had used my PST for so long and still liked it, that I look at a Rebar or ST300. Well long story short - I bought the newest versions that LM  had to offer and wasn't happy with them (especially the P4). THEN got a ST300 and Rebar. What a surprise...... I liked them both.

And LOL - I forgot to put the file out in the previous picture.  Whoops!!

I do not believe anyone subscribed to this topic would try to discourage you😊

For the money I do believe the REBAR is the best bang for your money.  But, that is just my very humble opinion!☺️

I gotta say that the Rebar is well worth its money and can be a most excellent EDC 8) :tu:

They only made the ST300 as an EOD I believe  the Rebar has a a knifeless version along with the,  stainless, black oxide and coyote tan (plus a few different color variations that are super rare :ahhh )

Just got my first Rebar in today. Stiff and dirty but I got it cleaned up, re-oiled, and will work on breaking it in and loosening it up. Best part was the teacher discount on the Leatherman website!

I'm new to Leatherman. I received my first yesterday.
When unpacking and using it a bit. my initial thoughts were not very positive.

Here is what i wrote on Reddit:

Quote
So I just received my Rebar, and to be honest, yes, I'm a bit disappointed. I watched about 30 reviews about it over on YouTube. i had great expectations but :

It feels less slicker than my Swisstool Spirit XC. Some tools are hard to get out. Some are ok. It feels uneven, not polished. Sometime they all come out. You can't just take one by one. As if Victorinox had somewhat patented the nail notch to get out just one tool at a time. Here on the Rebar, you never know what will happen or if you're gonna get pinched by something. Again unpolished, unrefined.

I used some WD40 and applied lots of olive oil on the joint, it's somewhat better but not entirely.

Also tools on the Swisstool are thicker and feel stronger. Yet the multitool as a whole is not thicker than the Rebar. I hear many times that the flat screw driver on the Rebar could be used as a sort of pry tool, well on the Swisstool, it's much more the case.

The Rebar is a bit shorter but not significantly lighter

I know I know they have different price points. I guess my main grip with the Spirit was the butter blade and the length, that's why I went with the Rebar and I like its more classic style/vintage style.

I understand from the comments that Leatherman did try the nail notch and upon receiveing feedback from worker swearing gloves they chose the tools to clump together as a feature

And then, as I could not really sleep last night something suddenly struck me. Victorinox and Leatherman, it's really two different ways of bringing a multitool. My initial thoughts were logically influenced by what I've known for over a decade. Yes, the Swisstool is smooth and snaps like a king, but on the field the Leatherman seems more suited for many people.

Anyways, I'm happy to join the Rebar club and change my way of thinking on multitools.

I'll be using it mostly for camping, hiking and DIY around the house.

LM had a whole lineup for years before the Rebar that didn't have tool clumping and people complained about it :dunno:

I am not sure about pricing where you live but here in the US the Rebar is priced quite a bit lower that any of the Swisstools and Spirits which puts the Rebar in a different category as well  I would also note that I have never had great experiences with a Swisstool or a Spirit really being smooth to me  maybe I just haven't broken them in enough  glad you are giving the Rebar a chance it really is a great tool for me  :tu: I am carrying one today in fact :woohoo:

Also, great pic :like:

@Gee.B

Smart to realize the LM concept is different than Victorinox’s approach. Your Butterblade in the Spirit is a gem. Vic’s serated blades have always been like forever sharp.  Plus the Butterblade version is no longer in production I believe.

The Rebar is great over awl tool. Just really needs a breakin. I have 3, and each required oiling, flushing and another oil down.

Makes a great fidget tool.   Clumbing is a feature, once use too, can be frustrating when using tools that do not.
I started with the SuperTool300, but, needed a smaller set, and the REBAR is its smaller twin.

👍👍👍
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

How do immediately know on which side the serrated and the classic blades are ?
Right now I'm like "OK the classic blade opens up on the inch side" but that's not very visual
i'm really about to to use a black marker felt tip on one of those 4 round metallic joints to make it easier lol

That may work.
I used a RED sharpie and marked the nail Knick of the SE blade.  (Danger)

And Black on the PE (less danger)
