It's one of those days where I just bought a standard Rebar yesterday, then this morning I see a black oxide Rebar being sold online (for USD10 more).  O well, I just tell myself that it's supposed to be a survival tool in a way that the shiny surface can be used for signalling vs the BO version.

I've been thinking about adding the can opener back in the rebar for some time, so I gave it a go with wave and spirit pliers. But instead of removing the lanyard loop as originally planned, I took out the small flat driver. I don't need two flat drivers. And the product as follows
I'm very pleased with this. I put the opener back in because before it had capabilities of a full size mt, but couldn't open a bottle or can. now it has a full tool set without redundancy. I still have some clearance issues to work out but very minor. Overall very satisfying

Early next week a package will go in the mail, and I'll be officially OUT of this club  >:D I was in for a brief time with a stock version when they first came out, but not for more than a few weeks. I then bought a decapitated BO one with a pair of BO Fuse (or something) CC pliers to fit instead, and set about building a knifeless version.

That's now headed for a new home in Croatia, so instead of having a Knifeless Rebar, I'll just have Rebarless Knives

Looks AMAZING.  Do you think it is possible to ditch the lanyard loop and keep the medium flat driver?

Thanks. :salute: Yes I think so, but it would still need some slight work because the small driver is thicker than the loop. I kept it in, because I really only needed the large flat driver and I wanted the rebar to be as versatile as possible.

Yes , you have to reduce the thickness a bit. I choose the can opener to grind down to size.

Didn't notice you marked the serrated blade as well. It does help it getting the right blade on the first round.

I wouldn't have ground down the can opener, but instead would have omitted it. Nice job though.

That was the first thing I did to my Rebar right after I got it.  :tu:

I did at first omit it but I put it back in with plans to turn it into a combo can/package opener.

SteveC, that really looks amazing.  Are you worried about the weakened tip of the can opener breaking?  How much did you have to grind down the can opener.  Between the lanyard ring and the washer on the phillips side, seems like a decent amount of space can be gained by rearranging.

I'll have to track down a pair of Wave scissors.  (Anyone know where I might find those?)  You have, IMO, the perfect multi tool there.

I'm not too worried because I don't really have any plans to open cans with it. Although I think it would hold up to the task. You basically have to match the thickness of the lanyard ring thickness, It's not a lot.

After the initial mod I ground down the lanyard ring to fit it in where the spacer was on the scissors side. I kept it in for a while but for some reason it was messing with the lock up of the saw so I took it back out.

Here's a link to my thread when I did the mods

I'm in the club now, thanks to Walmart clearance. Check your local store, I've found multiple Rebars for $25.00.

West Marine has a deal even better than Walmart clearance.  Rebar and Micra Set $21.66 + free shipping to store: http://www.westmarine.com/buy/leatherman--rebar-and-micra-multi-tool-set--14546519

Who couldn't use another Rebar at that price that also comes with a free Micra. At least that's how I think of it :D

That is a fantastic price. Is anyone willing to pick up that Rebar+Micra set from Westmarine and ship it to me in Sweden? (Of course I'll pay) For whatever reason, it won't let me proceed to the shipping method page, it says my cart is empty even though I do have the set in it. I guess they just don't want to ship this thing to Sweden or something.
