Cleaning this SAK??
on: May 17, 2012, 09:26:37 PM
I was digging through some stuff and found this. I bought it at a garage sale a while back and never did anything with it. I would really like to get it cleaned up. The tools are all fairly easy to deploy with the exception of the Can Opener. My question is what is the best way to give this SAK a deep cleaning without disassembling it. I'm not worried about popping the scales off, that's no problem I just don't want to drill any pins or disassemble it in any way. Any suggestions?

I don't exactly know if this will work with something so big, but I let my keychain SAK's sit a cup of water with a couple of denture cleaning tablets in there for a couple hours. It works really well for getting gunk out of the insides  :)

Hey Captain, I asked the same question not too long back, and here's what folks had to say...

The 'Cleaning an old vic?' thread...

Thank's Lynn.  :tu:

I looked through the thread and decided to go the Dish soap and hot water route. It ended up working pretty well and I am very happy with the results. It just needs a good sharpening and its good to go.

I just noticed that the corkscrew seems to be bent out a bit. I tried bending it back by hand, but don't want to break anything. Has anyone ever tried to bend back a corkscrew? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I straightened one up by holding the Sak in a towel and used a screwdriver down the inside of the corkscrew to gently bend it back (little bend then try, little bend then try  ;) )

Nice looking SAK, Good luck Captain  :salute:
