Lots of time these days ... I live on the edge of the forest and often go to the forest with my son. Making a fire and sausages on it. Carve something - last project slingshot, practice shooting and just be happy that we are healthy and can enjoy the moment. Not spectacular but priceless!

Wait wait wait... :wait:

You guys live in Switzerland, one of the most beautiful places on earth, you get first choice on thousands of old stock and used classic SAKs, you live next to a forest, you are allowed to have a picknick and an open fire in that forest and BBQ your sausages on it...  :sa:

Over here, open fires are a no go, even in your own back yard, let alone in a forest, and at the moment, we aren't even allowed to stop for a rest during our hike...

:viking:

Beautiful pics of an equally beautiful father/son moment. Thank you so much for sharing these very soothing pics here with us.

Greetings from Belgium, and stay safe my friend  :salute:.

Thanks for your words, Top-Gear-24. Believe me, I appreciate it!  :hatsoff:

Here with us four-year-old children go to the forest with their class every week, get a SAK and cook on an open fire. Somehow unreal to hear that the open fire in your area is a no go. Our countries are not that far away ...  :sa:

Best regards from Switzerland, make the best of this time and stay healthy!  :salute:

Well yes, but I never noticed a cop in the middle of a forest...

And the places I end up in don't see many bypassers either...

So just keep the amount of smoke as low as possible

Well, I have... And more than once  ::)

Back in the "old" days (10 tot 15 years ago) I went metaldetecting with a friend of mine about once a month.  And we've had cops showing up a couple of times, even while we were deep in the fields here in de Provences of Antwerpen and Vlaams-Brabant.

These days I don't go metal detecting anymore since you have to own a permit and the cops show op half of the time.

So, instead my friend and I go to the Ardennes like 2 times a year, armed with my trusty Nikon to visit unknown battle sites from WW2.  And about 70% of the time we get a visit from the law, sometimes cops, sometimes a Forest Ranger.  And it's not like we're on the edge of the forest, no, even when we're on a very remote and unknown (to the public) site, out of nowhere... a Forest Ranger.

If you have a metaldetector with you on that moment, they will take it away from you and you'll get a fine.

Maybe we've been unlucky, but I'm not going to risk making an open fire that creates a smoke signal.

When I was a kid (back in the '80s), we used to burn our paper and cardboard trash every Friday evening in an old (and cleaned out) oil drum in the back yard, taking a potato, wrapping it in aluminiumfolie, sticking it on a knitting needle and place it over the fire... Best food ever (if mother would've served potatoes like that for lunch, we probably wouldn't have eaten them, but outside, in the dark, over an open flame... Best food ever...

Sadly enough that's about the only option we have, and even that might get you in trouble.  Just as the "option" I've been considering.

I've been thinking about getting a Kelly Kettle, hoping on a bit of common sense when "caught"...

But since common sense has gone out of the window these days...

TG, I don't know how I managed to miss this thread, but love all these tool porn you are posting!  I am especially a fan for Brisa knives, I think the prices might have gone up in recent years, but they really offer nice selection of true Scandi full tang knives without breaking the bank too badly.

I am particularly interested in the Brisa Nessmuk, the size/shape/steel looks pretty functional and it is an interesting twist on the Nessmuk design.  Do the knife come with this patina?  And so how do you like it's performance?

Hey Comis, welcome to my own little corner here, well, as a manner of speaking.

Prizes on Brisa/Enzo knives have gone up, but they still offer a lot of bang for your buck in my opinion.

I paid 90 Euro for the Nessmuk and I think it is well worth it.  I can only comment on a bit of very light use at home (quarantine  ::)), but first impressions look very promising.

And yes, it came with this patina, the light spots are actually quite bluish in real life.  I've seen them online going from almost all black to very "rust" brown.

I've been thinking about removing the parts of thick black patina on mine (near the tip of the knife) and polish it up a bit, so it can get a patina from my personal use but since real use isn't going to happen soon I'm going to leave it as it is for now.

Condor also has a nice Nessmuk knife, but in my opinion the Brisa seems to be the best choice between the two (never saw the Condor Nessmuk in real life, so it's all a bit hypothetical).

20 minutes walk from my house is a small castle or what is left of it. Today we walked across the fields to this nice place and on the way back we got fresh, raw, delicious milk from the farm ... Once again a good day.

Beautiful pics as always Sneider .

One of those places that would be on my "to see list" if I was on vacation in the region.  I love an old castle, donjon, stronghold... And they are always one of my priorities when I'm planning my vacation.

Thanks for posting a pic of the information sign, when I post pics from an interesting location like that, I always try to put some pics of such information signs along as well, I always assumed that, if I like to read them, others might as well.

P.S.: Does that alox... I mean tractor also come in other colours, or maybe a yearly Limited Edition? 🤔

😉

Thanks for sharing your awesome pics my friend, I really appreciate it  :salute:.

Thank you, TG24 I'm happy if you like it.
There we have something in common. I am fascinated by old places, donjon, stronghold and castles since I am a child. What fascinates me the most is simple knight's castles on rocky, hard-to-reach locations from the time 1000 - 1300 after Christ. There were thousands in the Alpine region, unfortunately little is known about it, since almost nothing has been preserved from this period apart from walls.

Information boards are always a good thing for those interested. Or at least give the name of the place, Wikipedia usually knows something.
If I visit such places in the future I will report about it here in your great thread.

No idea if the tractor is available in other colors but an Alox edition of it would be nice  ;) :D

Very nice indeed  :like:.

I've been in Meiringen during our 2015 Swiss vacation, we walked through the Aareschlucht and paid a visit to the town (it was there that I found two Wenger Snow Rangers, my Blaze Ranger, my Wenger Mike Horn Souvenir and... my NIB Victorinox Swisschamp XL).

Our visit there wasn't planned, so I didn't know about the Sherlock Holmes history there, and I didn't know about that beautiful Restitower in your pic either...

Yep, I'm a bit off a history geek buff myself  ;).

You were in Meiringen? That's cool. The Aareschlucht is great. There are a lot of sights there, the problem is usually that you don't have enough time. A couple of our friends live in Meiringen. I also know the owner of the Knifeshop who also sells toys and household goods. The region between Grimsel, Thun and Grindelwald is one of my favorite places. At the back of the valley, in the Grimsel area I go looking for crystals in summer, can't wait ...

The restiturm of one of the best documented residential towers of this kind. The page is unfortunately only in German and French.

Yep, TG-24 was there  :D.

And yes, they sold toys and household goods at the store where I found that awesome Wenger/Vic stuff.

My father came into the store to see what was taking so long, right when I was about to buy 5 SAKs, so we quickly asked the lady at the counter to pretend as if I was only buying one of them, and keep the other 4 on the side until my father went out of the store again.

You see, my father had heartsurgery once already, and for him to see me buy 5 SAKs at once... Well, let's just say we didn't want to take any chances.

When he sees me buying a SAK while we're on vacation together, he always says: "why are you buying another one, when you already have one?"

Yeah right... one...

Needles to say that I never told him we got an extra discount (on top of the -10%) at the factory store in Ibach because I spend over 500 Euro there (and that was at the store in the Vic factory alone).

I told the wife and kids that grandpa could never find out what I spend on SAKs during our 7 days in Switzerland  ;).

I love Switzerland, very beautiful country, everything so clean and tidy, and very nice and friendly people.  Best vacation ever.  I love Austria as well, but hey, I'm a SAK collector so...

About time I post some pics again  ;).

These next ones were taken during a hike near my home, last Thursday.

Love the Brisa Nessmuk, and Curly Birch handles are just as addictive as Alox SAKs in my opinion.
