Hey guys,

Thanks for the comments on the Vic Diver, I love watches and when I can get them at a great price it's just extra nice, got this Vic Diver at a -50% discount at the local jewelry store, 1 kilometer from my home.

I've bought more watches than tools the past 2 years, when one addiction gets better, another gets worse I guess  :D.

Beautiful pics John, I would've never guessed those were "suburbs" pics (just did some Google earth visiting  ;)).

Thanks for sharing your pics here guys, always a pleasure  :salute:.

Rainy walk to the nearby viewpoint over my city.

The good side of bad weather is; it has no people. On nice summer evenings, the wall, the benches and the lawns are full of people.

Civivi Foldis, my only flipjoint knife. I really enjoy playing with it.

Eric good thinking on the Google Earth, I live in Lindfield just to the north, takes about 15-20 minutes to get to the park

Hey Peter,

That kind of weather looks very familiar for some reason...

But you are right, there are also some advantages with these rainy days, like you said, lots of people choose to stay indoors,  so more peace and quiet for people like us  ;).

Still, stunning pics, even with the dark clouds.  And I must confess that I'd never heard of this Civivi Foldis brand, but that looks like an awesome knife (just googled them and they have some beautiful knives in their line up  :o).

Thanks for sharing your pics here my friend, stay safe  :salute:.

Thank you guys.

I walked for over two hours and only met two old ladies, a jogger and three deer.
On the edge of a city of 120,000 inhabitants. Most people seem very afraid of the weather.

The quality/price ratio of Civivi is (IMO) really good.

Today I was at a flea market again, saw a lot of knives and had some nice conversations with other collectors.
For me I only bought these two bargains with Victoria stamps.

Hey Peter,

Same situation here, in less than a month nature has become abandoned, and even though I don't go out as much as I do in summer, but I enjoy every minute of it.

And I would love to visit some of those Swiss flea-markets, the chance of finding something awesome most be so much bigger as it is on flea markets over here  :-[.

Hey Eric,
I would still like to browse through a Belgian flea market or a farmer's market, craft market, etc., I love the atmosphere at markets that are not tourist-oriented. The flea market culture is quite strong here, with maybe 20 flea markets every weekend. How are your flea markets?

Oh yes, I also enjoy every minute in nature, but today I didn't go into nature but simply into the center of my humble, small hometown where the Christmas lights were recently put up. We like the mood with all the yellow lights and strolling through Winterthur's old town.

Take care and have a good time,
Peter

Beautiful pics Peter, the Swiss... even their Christmas lights rule... :dd:

Thanks for sharing your pics here my friend, I really appreciate it  :salute:.

As for flea markets over here, there's one quite famous in the next village, that's the weekly flea market of the town Heist-op-den-Berg, which means Heist on the mountain, mountain being a bit of an exaggeration since it refers to a small 45m "high" hill in the otherwise flat environment, on which they build a church, and around it the town.

There are a couple of weekly flea markets in my region, but the chance of finding something interesting there is very small... sadly enough  :-\.

Thank you guys.
Heist looks pretty - I googled it. There are no weekly flea markets here. A large, very well attended flea market here is monthly but most flea markets - especially the good ones - are only once to four times a year. The quality and level of the markets here varies greatly. There are some where dealers and collectors meet and some where there is hardly anything that anyone will buy.

It started snowing here on Friday - that alone is pretty rare in my area. Today, Sunday, was even sunny. Snow, sun and blue sky - that's something that only happens every few years in Winterthur. We enjoyed it, walked a lot through the forest, went sledding with our son and of course enjoyed the view from our nearby hill.

Those snow pics are stunning my friend...

I'm normally not much of a Christmas/New Year person (I have some "not so happy" memories from during this period a long time ago), but Christmas in Switzerland... that's something else...  :o

Love the little snowman pic , and it's also great to see that viewpoint over your city in different seasons  :tu:.

Thanks for sharing those beautiful pics here my friend, for me it feels like going on a little trip on my tablet each time  :hatsoff:.

Thanks Eric.

Sad to hear there are so many people struggling with the Christmas season.
When I met my wife I was warmly welcomed into her family. There I learned what a happy Christmas feels like. I have made peace with the Christmas season and I want our son to have better memories.

The snow is gone here again. A week of constant rain. Rain on snow is really my least favorite weather, but whatever.

Today I was in nearby Zurich to look at a watch that I fell in love with... :ahhh

Hey Peter,

Back in '96 I had a serious motorcycle accident a week before Christmas, spend two days and nights in intensive care and one or two days in a regular hospital bed before I got to go home.

And it was that Christmas that I learned who I could count on, and who was just there to enjoy the good times.  Spend the holidays lying in the couch with nobody around except my future wife.

Anyway, I enjoy spending these days being with my Misses and our children now, but the other obligatory stuff with relatives and friends I don't enjoy...

Anyway, enough of me killing the Christmas vibe...  :surrender:.

You said something about a watch...?  :pok:

Almost forgot,

I went on a hike two weeks ago with an old colleague who is now retired, and I took some pics of the frozen landscape, with the sun trying its best to break through the fog (but it did not succeed, sadly enough).

It did create this magical atmosphere, wondering through the empty woods, we only encountered 2 or 3 other people during the entire hike, which made it even more special.

Hello Eric

In really difficult times you recognize true friends...
I had that experience too. My wife, one good friend... there weren't much else.
But a lot of rats left the "sinking ship".

Seems we both have very good wives, cheers to them!

Big Christmas celebrations with all the relatives have been canceled for years. But I really enjoy the time with my few loved ones.

Thanks for this beautiful series of pictures, what a mystical atmosphere! I like atmospheres like this, but as a constant state it is too much for me.
Your Inox Titanium simply looks indestructible!

Yes, the desire is growing in me for the first time for a high quality watch. But the minimalist style from the 60s, which I really like, seems to be pretty outdated. Then it has to be swiss made with a proven automatic movement and at the lower end of the price range...not easy. But I have time, even if I don't have a watch.  ;)

Our lives seem to run on similar paths my friend  :salute:.

Can't wait to see which watch you're going to pick, always an exciting moment  :tu:.

Like I said, my love for watches flared up again about two years ago (after being dormant for several years...), and the fact that there's not much new or exciting happening when it comes to multitools/SAKs also played along.

The Inox Titanium went from being a casual, semi-dressed watch on the original brown leather strap to a true, rugged outdoors watch on the Nato strap and with the case protector, and I'm loving it.

But both my Vic Airboss watches also have a special place in my heart, a Swiss Made Aviator with an automatic movement and the logo of the Swiss Airforce on it, could it be any better...  :dd:.

Anyway, can't wait to see your new watch, enjoy that time you spend on searching and deciding which one you're going to buy, the search is half the fun of buying something new, right  ;).

Stay safe my friend  :salute:.

Hey Eric. I'm a newbie when it comes to watches. In my entire life I have had three digital Casios, all under €/CHF 30.-

Victorinox watches are very underrated, a lot of quality for the price.
And Eric, your Airboss automatic looks great and is a style icon!
The strap has a huge impact on the look of a watch, I didn't realize that for a long time.

I've read up on the topic of watches over the last few weeks
visited all the watch shops in Winterthur and some in Zurich, looked at the collections of all the "affordable" Swiss manufacturers and now know exactly what type of watch I want

-Swiss made
-proven automatic movement
-flat case
-domed sapphire crystal
-minimalist 60s design with sunburst dial in a warm color
-preferably without a second hand
-date window at 6 or without.

That limits the choice quite a bit.
I'm watching the prices now, maybe they'll go down a bit in January.

@Echotech: Thank you.
But wait, Hot? Summer?!  :sa:  Today we received four cubic meters of firewood for heating.

Two weeks of Christmas vacation... sounds great.

Merry Christmas to you (and Coco) as well John .

Snow pictures you say... Hopefully Peter has the chance to take some of those, because the snow we get here is only in its pure, unfrozen state... ::) (but lots of it, that's for sure :ahhh).

Sorry, no snow here either. Rain and 3-10 degrees.
Things are pretty busy at work, and December 26th will probably be my only day off for the rest of this year.
Merry Christmas everyone, enjoy it when you have free time!

Oh well chaps you never know, the weather yesterday was cold (when I say cold I mean 18c haha) and wet but I’m sure normal summer will resume soon. I’ve just mowed the lawn so glad it isn’t too hot

This is a king parrot eating macadamia nuts off the tree

Stunning pic, look at those blue skies... (I guess snow pics are not going to happen anytime soon, but this must be awesome as well, beautiful hiking weather).
