Used my Hunter today to clear a path for the sawmill blade. I was milling a particularly large rainbow poplar log, and it tapered....and I couldn't quite get out the end of the log. So I used the Hunter's combo opener to scrape away the bark and cambium of the log to let the headrig squeak through. I used the opener instead of a knife blade to avoid dulling any knife blades....that poplar bark was full of dirt and gravel.

I don't know if you have them in Europe, but in America we have birds with red heads that sit on trees like that, called Woodpeckers. They hit the tree with their beak and drill holes in the bark, looking for bugs. You can hear them in the woods, going "whack-whack-whack" like little jack-hammers. They sit on the side of the tree just like your knife is.

Jim, we do indeed have woodpeckers in Europe - locally we have one individual who taps on my neighbour’s tv antenna to get a more resonant drumming! Who needs trees when metal sounds better!

True! We had one when I was a kid, that would tap on our tin roof outside our front door. As soon as the sun came up. 5:00 in the morning or whatever.
