Thanks.  It's Pacific Yew (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taxus_brevifolia).
The scales are made from a standing dead tree I harvested in a local forest when I was building trail.  The tree was 4.5 inches in diameter and had 92 growth rings.  They're extremely slow growing.  The wood takes on a high polish without needing to use oils or wax.  The scales are sanded to 600 grit.
