ZIPPO LIGHTERS
on: September 07, 2022, 05:34:28 PM
Hi!
I have an old zippo lighter with a bottom number like J V on the bottom it has also the brand name and bradford p.a. like all zippos but it has not something like made in usa.
On the front size it has a stamp that says 50 years and glowing stronger.
Is my zippo real or fake? And if it's real is it worthy?
Thanks for ur time!

Hi Andrei,
First off, I don't know anything about Zippo lighters.  I just hate to see a new member not get any response.  Are Zippo lighters popular where you are?
Like any collectible the driving force is demand.  No demand, then you can't sell it even if it is rare.  Second, condition matters.  A lot.  Collectors of anything want something that looks like it hasn't been used.
The guys on here are primarily knife and multi-tool people.  Use them.  Collect them.  Buy and sell sometimes.  Some of them like Zippo.  Some like pens.  Some like flashlights or other tools.  Mostly it is knives and some sort of multi-tool.  Maybe someone will have something to say about your nice Zippo.  Best wishes.  Gary (IMR)

 :iagree:

Pricing is always very difficult unless there are others in same condition that were sold.  On items that have been used its usually dependent on what the buyer and seller agree upon.  The market usually dictates price.  Check around your area to see what the market says and decide if that price works for you.  Many add in sentimental value which I suggests dont do if you're looking too move this item.  If you're just wondering what the price is, I went a long way to say, I have no clue.  Sorry.

Zippo is pretty great at offering information on dating tho.

Gary is correct, condition is very important.

Your piece is a 2001 mfg lighter.  Marlboro a US cigarette brand did have many promotional  items made and sold.  And are popular. Yours does appear to have enjoyed a life of pocket carry.   I suspect the “M” May have been filled with and enamel paint, red or black.  Can wear off and even more so if fuel is spilled onto the case and wiped off.

US flea market I may trade a $20 for it, not much more.
In other parts of the world maybe more if you find the right motivated buyer.   I am not a smoker, but my father enjoyed his Marlboro’s and liked the cowboy motif commercials.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

I need to dig out my Granddaddy's Zippo. He died in the 80's.

It might be from the 50's/60's, hell, I don't know.

I've been tasked with cleaning up a WWII-era Zippo with the black crackle finish on it. Or more accurately, with traces of the black crackle finish!

Has anyone here redone the crackle at home?

Pictures ?

Redoing a well LOVED and HARD USE ZIPPO may not be wise.

May not ever improve value.

My Father carried  a ZIPPO as long as I remember, sent back to Zippo more times  than I know for repair of the lid hinge.

The original motif was a hunter drawing bead on a pheasant , which is long gone.  As well as 70% of the chrome, the brass is below is exposed. Lighter is functional and rests today in the cupboard at the house, I grew up in and my mother (91) will look at at least once a day reminding her that her husband is gone and not coming back.

Just saying, some items are priceless…
