When I bush it I carry just a Light My Fire firesteel with striker. And a film canister full of dryer lint. Starts fires pretty good. :tu:

My fire lighting kit consists of a standard Light My Fire firesteel, a lighter and a box of matches. When I go camping, I add some extra stuff to it to make fire starting easier.

Has anyone had experience using a fire piston?  I've thought about getting one.

I have one. It's a fun fire toy but too fiddly for me to consider seriously. You have to worry about seals and lubrication...and fumbling about with a minuscule ember.

I use one of the Doan Machinery magnesium blocks with a ferro rod in it.  Great little firelighter.  Airport security didn't like it much, until I pointed out to them I had nothing on me to strike it with, and then they didn't mind.

Light my fire ferro rods are another favourite.  Still haven't gotten one of the misch metal rods though :(

I have a mag block as well but it takes quite a while to scrape enough shaving.

The misch metal rods works well, but it's a pain to get them to work at first place.

Tho I don't much like the saw blade riding on my key or in my pocket  :ahhh  I need to get one of those small strikers the ones you see on the best fire steels,I bet I can't get one separate

Come and do the pot noodle day over here!  Summer is just starting!  :D

And there is a huge amount of driftwood on the local beaches - perfect for fires.
