Gibson SG Standard electric guitar
on: June 29, 2012, 03:24:57 PM
I'm selling a Gibson SG USA 2011 standard with coil splitting in classic white. I added some upgrades to the guitar which include chrome Grover locking tuners (kidney shaped), Grover strap locks, black speed knobs and original spec knob pointers. The guitar was professionally set up at Carpenters world of music in Hagerstown, MD, on 6/12/12. New Gibson strings were installed as part of the work.

Original price was $1869.00 before parts and labor for set up and upgrades. Those costs amount to $280.00. Guitar comes with Gibson USA black hard shell case with white plush interior, all original paper work, black Les Paul nylon strap, and all original parts that were upgraded.

The guitar is in perfect condition with no scratches, dings, dents, or damage.
I'm asking $1400.

That is beautiful!  I always loved the SG even though Les Paul hated it so much he had his name taken off it.  No archtop, no sunburst, double cutaway- this always struck me as the perfect rock/punk axe since it was so stripped down and there was nothing special to it.  The SG is just a raw music machine, and guys like Angus Young and Pete Townsend just helped that image!

Plus it's a lot easier to play while sitting down than my old Flying V!  :D

Thank you. And yes, that's true, although I believe they still kept his name on it until about 63 by some reports, which would be a few years after he voiced his dislike for it.
I've wanted one since I first saw Angus Young playing his, when 'Highway to Hell' was released, the first rock album I ever bought. (1981?) :tu:

I have to admit, it is, but I have one guitar left, and you'd have to pry it from my cold dead hands before I give it up, no matter how financially strapped I get!

I believe that Les Paul was under contract which is why his name was on it.  Until then they were known as the Les Paul Double Cutaway if my memory is correct.

A little known bizarre fact about me is that I was one of less than ten people accepted to the Atlanta Institute of Music's Luthier Course in the early/mid 90's.  I couldn't go because I had no way of paying for it, but if I had I'd probably be working with Gibson today, or off on my own designing and building Defender's Custom Git-Fiddles.

Nice!  I'd love to have the skills to build something that beautiful. That's definitely a profession to be proud of, and one where I would get up in the morning and look forward to going to work!

Sorry you couldn't follow through with the classes.

Yeah, every now and then I wonder about the road not taken. It would have been awesome to work for Fender or Gibson.... or BC Rich, Washburn, Jackson.... the list goes on.

I was always better at working on them than I ever was playing them!

You guys probably noticed the non stock truss rod cover on the Les Paul. I got those from a guy in Canada who makes them by hand. He does awesome work. I bought one for the SG too, but took it off for the sale. It's pictured bellow.

Follow the link I posted to his store on eBay. Even if you don't own a guitar, I'm sure you'll appreciate checking out his hand made art work. :tu:
