I think Ballistol is based on mineral oil. Good stuff in any case so long as you don't mind the smell of aniseed when it's first applied

magnetically induced stuff? what is that?  and wouldn't oil that generates an electrical current when placed in a magnetic field be a really bad thing?

Looks like you're right.  From the Ballistol Data Sheet:

Ballistol contains medicinal grade mineral oil, alkaline salts of oleic acid, several alcohols, Benzyl Acetate and an oil from
vegetal seeds. The mineral oil is unchlorinated and conforms to the specifications of US Pharmacopeia XX.

I'd never heard of the stuff until our resident "nano pedler" stuffed a tube into a tool I bought from him

I actually use WD40 too for most things, mainly because I really like the smell of it! I know that's not a scientific conclusion, but it does seem to work too

Thanks for the advice guys, I did some googling and found this, they appear to offer free worldwide shipping, which is nice.  I think it is only supposed to be for CPF members, but when you hide your "secret" links so badly they can be found on google....    .  Anyway, I have ordered some.
