Diefenthal knives
on: June 30, 2012, 11:42:09 AM
does anyone know much about Diefenthal knives? I'm interested in some of their single blade lockbacks. They look really good on the internet  ::) but they are a solingen brand, and the quality of the modern ones is unfortunately a bit dodgy. I have heard a couple of good things about them, even favourable comparisons with vintage pumas. Is this an exaggeration?

well, I decided to buy one of these Diefenthal hunting folders, and hope for the best. The first one I ordered was a clip point, and for me the finish was just not up to par, especially the backspring, there were some ugly gaps there. So I replaced it, and because they had no more in stock, I opted for the spear-point, which is better really, because it is more unique to this company, and as you can see from underneath, it is enormous in proportion to the handle. The fit and finish of this is much better, not perfect, a few gaps here and there, but the overall impression is pleasing, especially the blade, they really did a fine job on that.

440C steel, the grind on the blade is really extremely nice. very thin hollow grind, razor sharp edge, but thick at the spine.

size comparison to a SAK

fit and finish is adequate, not perfect, but the gaps in the liners don't look too bad:

That is indeed a very interesting blade shape. :tu:  While I have seen better fit & finish as well, it looks decent enough for a working knife.  That should serve you well for a long time I think.
