Boot shopping.
on: July 08, 2012, 01:04:46 AM
Going shopping for some new boots in the morning.  I've been wearing a very basic pair of Hi-Tec leather boots for a few years now and they've been very comfy, but they are in no way water-proof any more. :-\  So I'm going for a second try of a couple pairs of boots that seem to fit well and will suit my needs.

First up are the Scarpa Ranger II GTX:

A good all round boot with good flex for longer walks.

Next is the Meindl Burma:

A somewhat stiffer boot that should offer a better feel on rougher ground.
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

The fit of these 2 boots is also quite different.

The Scarpa is narrow/medium, whilst the Meindl is medium/wide.

I tried some Meindl's last year and whilst they were lovely boots, the fit wasn't right for me.

I recently got a pair of Scarpa Terra GTX boots.

They have to be the most comfortable boots I have ever worn :tu:

Nope, NOT red PVC thigh boots but the Mammut's Milhouse mentioned above and I'd been planning on having a quick glance at.  Tried on the Scrapa Delta's as well as the other two I mentioned in the OP but as soon as I put on the Mammut's I knew I was sold.  Even better was that when I got to the till I found out they were on sale for a mere £85!! :o  Given I was prepared to spend £150 or so this was a huge bonus. :)

I've heard great things about Altbergs, but nowhere around here stocks them for me to try them on. :-\

yeah, kinda feels like I've just made £75.  The sensible part of me says I could barely afford the £150, but it was likely worth it on a great pair of boots, so I should just be very grateful for the money saved.  The more reckless part of me says that I had mentally put aside £150 so why not spend the rest? ::)

I did try on the Hillmaster before, but they just didn't quite fit my foot in the same way they should.  Felt like excellent boots though.

Gareth, with the cash you saved you could get the red boots too. Best of both worlds.
