The benefits of membership
on: February 21, 2008, 08:11:04 PM
Thanks to other members here, I now have two different incarnations of the same tool that I likely wouldn't have gotten on my own.

The SOG ToolClips:

Looking at the marks, it's easy to tell which one came first...

Then there's the difference in the tools themselves, like the different bottle openers:

And the different saws, one with the cover and one without:

The screwdrivers:

And the blades:

Are virtually identical.

There were previous posts about different colors of plier heads to show which ones were first types and which were second, but this is the first time I've seen the implement differences in the same type, but then I'm hardly an expert.  Maybe someone who is will toss in their two cents and we'll all learn something! :D

In the meantime, thanks to the guys who made these two tools available for my collection.  I appreciate it guys!

Nice tools!

I assume the pliers are spring-loaded, is the mechanism fed off of the slip-joints for the tools or a separate spring?

Can I get a width picture?

The pliers are not spring loaded.  I'll try to take a width pic for you later today.

Two... there is also the Micro ToolClip! :P

Of course there are several variants/colors of each as well, so I guess two won't cut it either....  :pok:

Well, you know me, I am a fixed plier head junkie!

I've always liked the fixed plier head models for their added strength over the folding head models.  Not that I've ever broken a folding plier head model mind you, but then I've never felt the need to "go easy" on a fixed head model either.

It's models like this, the SwissGrips and pocket grips that made me look forward to trying out the ZillaTool, and of course are also the measurement that the Zilla is being held to.  By those standards, especially the SwissGrip standard, the Zilla is small and svelte! :D

As for the ToolClips, they see limited pocket time both because they are new and purty and because they are very limited in the options available.  For example, there aren't really any decent screwdriver options on it, and since I use screwdrivers often, this is a significant liability to me.

Depending on the price I don't think you'd have too much trouble liquidating them around here!  :D

The price is really nice last time I was looking at them. Depending on how many I can get today I'll sell them for the same price I bought them for. Even though I am keeping one for myself so I can have 2  :drink:
