(sigh)

Sorry... When I said Role Playing Games... I should have been very clear, and hoped maybe the other subjects clued you all in to the nerdy (not naughty) version.

I play pencil-and-paper old-school Role Playing Games. The one that most people are familiar with is 'Dungeons and Dragons'. I've even co-authored one, and will soon have writing credits in another.

Sorry if this is less exciting than folks were hoping for.

Between this, and the 'an all out orgy' thread, I'm starting to think there's a overabundance of pent up 'energies' on these boards. :D

Actually, this sounds interesting.  Tell us more about the one you co-authored and the one you have writing credits in unless they are top secret.

I can tell you the one I co-authored. Except it'll give away my 'secret identity', since it's published under my actual name.

It's sort of where a bunch of my geek hobbies intersect. It's called 'Six-Shooters & Spaceships'. It's a supplement for the 'Serenity' role playing game. That game is based on the movie of the same title, which was originally a TV series called Firefly. I wrote the 'spaceships' portion of book, the second half. I also did all of the 3d generated spaceships and deck plans for it.

I can't discuss the other, since it's not yet published, but it's going to be from the same company (Margaret Weis Productions). The assignment on that one was very small, but still a publication credit.

Never cared much about RPG and I think their peak has passed. In recent times, producers have been launching hybrid themes with RPG, like the PS3 Valkyria Chronicles. Another wave that I never caught (or even understand) was that magic gathering cards stuff.  ???

I was thinking the same thing. The role play and the orgy thread kept popping up in new replies over and over and I was starting to get confused. Now I've got the folks over at my other favorite forum discussing which SAK carry method works best with their furries costumes.

Sadly I think you've gotten more interest here with the nerdy version of RPG than the naughty variety!

Weis and Hickman wrote alot of books for AD&Ds Dragonlance series. Some of the best books ever and best AD&D mod too. I killed my fair share of Draconions with my mage.......lol
I heard of the Firefly spin off but never tried it yet. Been in a WarHammer and Battletech mood.

Yes, yes I am. :D

On Firefly/Serenity: Firefly was a 'space western' TV series that ran 15 episodes. The series is available online most everywere, for instance with Hulu plus. It WAS available for free on Hulu until recently. You may also find it on DVD in your local library systems for folks in the U.S. I'd highly recommend watching the series before the movie 'Serenity'. You care more about the characters if you do, and may understand what's going on better. The basic idea is that there was a 'Unification War' 6 years before the start of the story, and the main character, and captain of the firefly class ship 'Serenity' was on the loosing side. Now he has a motley band of brigands who try to scrape out a living under the heal of a government he fought against. They're more-or-less robin hood kind of folks. It's a little hard to get over the concept of the setting, but once you take it as a given, the show is really great. The movie was great too. Go find it and watch it, if you haven't already. It was created by Joss Whedon, the guy who was the director of 'The Avengers'. He also had some other great writers on the show. Joss is, in my opinion, a very good director/writer for ensemble casts.

On dwindling Role Playing Game market. I'm pretty certain the hobby isn't going away any time soon, although it's has passed its peak in popularity/market share. Cost of production on a pencil-and-paper version of an RPG is VASTLY lower than the cost to make a video game RPG. I interned at a company that was making a MMORPG, building 3d models for it. It's an insanely big project.

I'm a bit behind in the RPG scene (as with most things). I liked Dungeons & Dragons on Sega Master System - that was cool! PS2 was Koudelka and Shadowhearts for me ... oh and Final Fantasy VII, and PC was Broken Sword, Day of the Tentacle, and Monkey Island though not sure if they count. Not played anything like that for a LOOOOONG time though

Jeez. Role playing, orgies, dungeons......Reminds me of a club I knew in Newark.  >:D :D  I played D&D for quite some time, though our sessions usually turned into absolute mayhem as we would be drunker and drunker as the night progressed.  :drink:  Really my favorite games were Warhammer and Warhammer 40K.  I think I still have my Imperial Army and Dark Angels in storage somewhere.....

I did quite a bit of paper and pencil role playing when I was younger; AD&D mostly but also Warhammer RPG and a plethora of others.  Being involved in Firefly/Serenity in any any way is very cool Lynn. 8)
