Your Ten Car garage
on: July 25, 2012, 11:44:44 PM
I was watching Top Gear the other day and the guys mentioned a car that would be in their Dream Ten Car Garage.  I started to think- what would be in my ten car garage if money was no object?  I really don't know, but I can certainly think of ten (at least) cars I would love to own.

Just off the top of my head, in no particular order:

Mercedes G55 AMG

Lamborghini LM002

Unimog u500

Hummer H1

Land Rover Defender 110

Yes, I realize I need a very BIG garage... but I do have some car choices....

Shelby 427 Cobra

VW Corrado

Lotus Elise

Plymouth Roadrunner

Porsche 911 Turbo

I'm sure I'd be able to think up others given some time, but since these are the first ten I thought of I assume that means these would be my ideal ten.

What are your top ten?

Hmmm... Haven't thought on that TOO hard, but...

Delorean (because, that's why!)

Tesla (cool electric car)

WRX STi (for all my rally-sport needs)

Ferrari 308 (I'm a child of the 80's, so sue me!)

Road Trek SS Agile RV (strictly for its awesome functionality).

The Ford Futura Batmobile, from the 60's TV series. Seriously, this is the coolest cars in human history.

Ford F-150 (because sometimes you need a truck)

Toyota FJ Cruiser (for all my off-road fun)

McClaren F-1 (because if I'm gonna die in a high speed wreck, I wanna do it in style)

And an XR3, which I wish to make myself.

Good to see my list wasn't the most expensive.

I had the Delorean on my list but then forgot to include it...

Well if you do buy a Delorean, you better hire a mechanic 24/7. :pok: Keep one in your trunk, you'll need him ;)

So I take it you are a GM guy?  :P

Nice pics by the way- there are some mighty fine trucks in there, and I am sure I could appreciate each and every one of them.... except the Prius....

I was going to put this in a new thread, but I'm already picking up steam, so here goes...

I hate Asian cars.  I really do.  I understand they are reliable, economical inexpensive and have shaped the way we buy cars today.  In fact, despite the relatively thin metal used in their construction that rusts so fast you could sit down and watch it, I really have nothing against the cars themselves.... it's the smurfing DRIVERS!

I am not saying that anyone who drives a Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, Subaru etc is an idiot, but it appears that the vast majority of mental midgets out there drive Mazdas, Kias and Mitsubishis to the point where I am bloody well sick of them and if I ever found myself driving one I'd probably vomit.

A bit of history here- I drive a bright yellow Jeep TJ, a vehicle that one would think would be pretty damned obvious to everyone around me.  However, I have had more close calls in the Jeep than in all other cars I've owned in my 20+ years of driving combined.  More people try to hit it than any other car on the road- so much so that I have checked to see if somehow it had been magnetized somewhere along the line.  And, nine times out of ten, it's some dinky little Asian smurfbox doing it!  I don't know if it's some Fast & Furious fantasy or what, but these idiots are taking their lives into their hands because their roofs are barely up to my fender.  They might twist some of my sheetmetal or possibly bend one of my axles, but they will be long gone by that point.

And, while I really don't give a damn if they want to kill themselves, (I might be suicidal too if I drove an Asian smurfbox) I'd prefer they didn't mess up my schedule doing it.

if someone brought the prius up and didnt do a rant i would, i hate pretty much all asian cars, the exception being the honda nsx and the lexus LFA. and if had completed all my goals (lots of cars, huge garage full of tools including a cnc machine, huge collection of knives/tools, ect.) i would just lift the body and drop it onto a custom frame with a 5.9 cummins and stacks out the hood and paint it flat black, then it would be cool or give people a laugh when they see huge amounts of black smoke coming from a prius. i also left out of my list a marauder and an original mini because it was my 10 car dream garage not 12 car dream garage

Don’t forget the paint on them, at least on Toyotas it’s utter crap. If you buy a new car from Asia most stores in Norway would recommend that you rustproof it from day one with Tectyl

I'm not particularly into cars in any way, so my answers must be vague for a large part, and needing research before tieing it down to specific models ... and if I did, I'd probably talk myself out of some of these ... but off the top of my head:

  • Landrover Defender (Long Wheelbase)
  • Toyota Hilux
  • VW Campervan
  • VW Beetle
  • Aston Martin DB9
  • Caterham 7
  • Jaguar (research needed before chosing which)
  • A huge camper/mobile home thing, custom built with mad design features
  • Something amphibious
  • Military Jeep

YES, cars (seems I havent ben online for too long if I miss epic threads like this one).

My Top 10

1. Nissan Pathfinder - sometimes you just need a car that large enough for ego  :D
2. Maserati Quadroporte - as fast as a "family car" can be
3. Range Rover - out in the dirt, the British way
4. Renault Twizzy - tiny, electric, cute. Perfect for places where parking space is rare.
5. Aston Martin DB9 - Yes SIR!
6. Renault Trafic - My car is my castle
7. Landrover Defender - Take that Jeep!
8. Bentley Continental - It is a Yacht on wheels!
9. Volvo XC90 - from Sweden, no more words needed!
10.Lotus Elise - small, but nasty!

Since we're going no budget there are some VERY expensive cars on this list... although a couple are probably more realistic... I also tried to pick some different cars as some of you have picked a few I rather like...

1971 Plymouth Hemi Cuda (Plum Crazy Purple)

This is my top car, quite hard to find without a thick bankroll... I would settle for a Mr Norms modern (con)version:

Lotus Esprit

I think the Exige/Elise are nice, but I've always wanted an Esprit...

Tesla Roadster

Something about it being electric that has me all a buzz (sorry neil!)

Ford Shelby GR-1

a Shelby Cobra would be great, but I think I'd like to have the mix of the Ford GT and Shelby Cobra concept...

Koenigsegg CCXR

I've pretty much loved all their cars...

Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera

I've always prefered lamborghinis vs ferraris... it would be tough to choose, so I picked a random one...

Volkswagen SCIROCCO (the new version)

Glad to see VW brought these back, this is a stretched meaner looking Golf imho...

Audi R8

Bugatti Veyron 164 Super Sport

rediculous price = win

Bowler Nemesis

Just to mix it up, not all super cars, but a super offroader!
The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.

Good lord... I can't imagine what I'd ever need 10 cars for, even as a fantasy!  I'm just a died in the wool bicycle guy... I had no access to motorized transportation at all from 19 to 31.  And, I've been blissfully car free for several years, though I do use my wife's mini van a few times a week now.

It's not a disadvantage, it's not a disability, it's a blessing.

Even if I could never ride my bicycle again, I could be perfectly happy with only three total, for everything I can think I'd ever need.

A four wheel drive capable pick-up truck or SUV (Preferably a four door pick-up, like a Titan, or even a Frontier).

A small sporty and economical car for commuting and city driving, like a Cooper Mini.

A family car like a mini-van; something like my wife's Sienna, or a Honda Odyssey...

Those three by themselves would cover everything I can possibly see myself needing.

Obviously mot a car guy then are you?

Believe it or not, some folks wonder why you would have a multitool or SAK let alone numerous.  :D

That's fine though- to each their own.  How about a ten home garage then? :D

A couple of times in my life I came dangerously close to buying a Harvester.  I love them.  The first one had the floors rotted out of it which is apparently a bad thing...

The second one had a blown engine.  I have no idea how the hell someone blew the engine in a Harvester, but I was pretty certain I didn't want it after that- imagine the punishment they must have put the rest of the truck through when they did whatever they did that killed the engine.   :ahhh

Sad too as it's one of my favorite trucks.

Hey Boss... yeah, I'm not really a "car guy"...  I did have seven different bicycles for a few years though... a beater mt. bike, a racer mt. bike, a beater road bike, a racer road bike, a touring road bike, my "mule" mt. bike outfitted with full racks and bags front and rear for grocery shopping and the like, and a classic mt. bike done up for just cruising/puttering around town... cafe hopping, etc.  Honestly, only ever rode about 3 of them regularly.

Pacu... that Brute is cool!  Does it come in a 4-door? :D

Oh, and great pic of Lucy Pinder there too!!!     She could adjust my nuts and bolt any time!!!  LOL!!!

Number 5 Mk1 Lotus twin cam Ford Cortina

Number 6 Ford Australia 1978 XD Falcon 351 V8 Cobra
