Athens (and a bit more) Museums
on: August 14, 2012, 10:35:55 AM
A small selection of pictures from the Athens Archeological museum as a start.

I want to avoid to show too much of the area around and concentrate on the museums.

I made the pictures small and limited their number, which considering that I have a few hundred pictures from various trips there, was a big problem...

Entrance:

my favourite statue there

Wrestling

porn..

Next the old Akropolis Museum  (you can not take pictures in the new one...) and area

nearby, Roman, ruins.. Heavier, more grand build compared to the parthenon.

And some from the Delphi museum and area.

Great view.

Nice pics mate. I got to go up on the Parthenon back in '99, but it was only a flying visit so I only got chance to go in the old Akropolis museum (don't think they'd built the other back then). Thanks for putting these up  :tu:

In the new one you can go round the remaining  ;) caryatids as in the old one they were against a wall. There is also better temperature and humidity control .

The new one also has glass roofs dividing the floors which means that you can look up the skirts of women on the floor above you, in case you are interested in that sort of thing... (maybe some people will go just for that..)

Here is a picture I took when they were moving the exhibits from the old to the new (on the right) using cranes.

Here are two pictures of the new Acropolis museum (outside)

And one from the Veranda of the museum, where you can take pictures, of the view, towards Acropolis. At a time there was a lot of discussion on demolishing the buildings between the museum and Acropolis since they were blocking the view, but nothing happened..
