My 1971 Soldier
on: September 05, 2012, 06:41:19 PM
I recently nabbed a much wanted '71' Victorinox Soldier from a seller in Canada.The quest for a 71 has been a bit of a saga , bidding on quite a few & getting pipped at the post on a number of occasions  :(. Well the saga is over  :D :D

Neil kindly offered too engrave a '71' on a Pioneer for me & charge a 'reasonable' fee for the privilege ::) :D , I declined his generous offer  :D :D.

I do like the wire stripper on the cap lifter that these old soldiers had  8)

Not sure if my 71's quality & fit n finish is indicative of these older SAKs but it is quite a bit rougher than my modern SAKs. The springs on my 71 are STOUT  :o ,especially on the cap lifter & can opener, not quite Camillus Demo knife league but close  :think:, a strong SNAP on closing too. The cap lifter scrapped on opening , has improved with a lube.Interestingly my 71 also weighs 3 grams more than the 98 & 01 Vic Soldiers I have :think: :think:.

A bit of SAK silliness  :D;

Pat's a lucky chap to have a can opener named after him  :P :D.

Very happy to finally have my birth year SAK  8) 8) & the rough n ready cap lifter had no problems opening a couple of Monteith's ciders for me tonight  8) :D.
Now I just need a 98 Wenger Soldier for my eldest son  :ahhh :D

Brilliant pics :tu:

I quite that rough finish you see on the older ones... like they are asking to be used hard.

i think your 98 is out there http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wenger-Soldier-Swiss-Army-Knife-blade-says-1998-/120978733033?pt=Collectible_Knives&hash=item1c2ae4f7e9

I got SUPER excited when I had a look at it but the seller does not ship outside the US & their account is set up so you can not even send them a question if you are outside the US  :( :(.

Thanks so much for highlighting the sale  :cheers: :cheers:. Now I need to go ask some fellas for a favour  ::) :D :D
