Mountaineer Lite
on: September 06, 2012, 03:05:13 PM
Whenever I get a new Vic catalogue I always look for any new models. While going thru the 2008 catalogue I noticed the Mountaineer Lite (1.7945.T2). Among its tools was the 2.5mm fine screwdriver on the reverse. After ordering one, I discovered that it had the chisel not the fine screwdriver. I thought it was just a sport or one-of-a kind or a mistake by Vic. Several years later, when I got the 2011 catalogue, I noticed that the knife was described as having the same 2.5 fine screwdriver. So I threw out a few more shekels for another Mountaineer Lite hoping I'd get the one with the sd, but instead I got the chisel again. So, I'd like to ask whether anyone has ever gotten the knife w/the fine sd on the reverse? By the way, I don't think the Mountaineer Lite was ever marketed in North America.

You may consider buying a Master Electrician.
It has the Fine Screwdriver and also an in-line Philips and a back-side Philips head screwdriver.
But is difficult to find it, and i don't know if you like the other tools that it has. ;)
(Is the one with the yellow scales)

Your pics show both the Master Electrician (yellow scales) & the Master Gardener (green scales). They were made exclusively in a limited edition for the SMKW (Smoky Mountain Knife Works of Tennessee, USA). They were probably ordered especially by Swiss Army Brands Inc. (SABI). Altho exclusively marketed by SMKW, unsold models were eventually resold to other dealers & occasionally come up on EBay. Some of the Master Electricians were boxed w/the Rambler, also w/yellow scales.

I thought mine had the fine screwdriver, but I guess I better try to find it to check.

Update: Well by chance I located mine, and it also has the chisel.  I don't think I noticed that when I got it.  I didn't get mine in the first batch, I purchased it in the last qtr of 2011, but I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not.

Yes i didn't have any photos with only the Master Electrician.
I know the story for these two limited models.
I have them both and it took me a long time to find them.
I as said it is hard to find the Master Electrician because it is limited edition, but if you ever find it and you like the other tools that it has it will be a good substitute to the Mountaineer Lite.
Now if you only want to learn if any other Mountaineer Lite has the chisel instead of the fine screwdriver, i am sorry but i haven't this particular model.
I only like to suggest you another model.  ;)

Marios, Sorry if I misinterpreted your reply. I was just curious to find out whether anyone got their hands on a Mountaineer Lite w/a chisel. I was wondering if all the Mountaineer Lites were produced with chisels and not the fine screwdriver. And if so, why hasn't Vic corrected their catalogue-- it has been repeating the same error since 2008.

I purchased 2 of the knives from 2 different dealers, one in 2008 and the other in 2012, and each one came w/the chisel. Oh well, as the mediaeval monks used to say "perfectus in Caelo, imperfectus in terra."

I updated SAKwiki to reflect that this model contains the chisel, until as such time as we see a live one with the fine screw-driver.  I see swiss-knife is now listing it on their website as having the chisel.
