Voyager Lite
on: March 12, 2008, 01:13:05 AM
Well, after looking through Victorinox's catalog, and some want of a SAK, I figured I'd start with the Soldier. If it's good enough for the Swiss army, it must be good enough for me, right? Well, I then though, well, I might as well go with the Spartan, the standard SAK. But then  I thought hey scissors would be nice, and decided on the Climber. But wait! The Voyager has all those features, and a clock! I might as well upgrade from that and get a Voyager Lite! Now I can see why some of you like SAK's so much!

And seeing as I gotta go through some sort of initiation to join the forum at SOSAK, and is all the same people here too, I'd like to get some thoughts about the Voyager Lite from anyone who has one, or has played with one before.

Thanks:)

Looks like a pretty neat combination there! I'm sure one of our resident SAK-heads will be along shortly with an opinion :)

In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

I carried a Voyager Lite for quite a while.  I liked everything about it except that the light was a little weak & turned on too easily in my pocket.

So perhaps I should pair a voyager with a smaller stronger light?

If you really want to fit in over on sosak, you need a farmer or a 108mm gak ;)

As for the Voyager, it does look like a handy little sak, but I'm usually wary of and tools that combine electrics , I'm sure it's be totally reliable (it is a Vic after all) there just not for me :)

Good luck with the mental wrangling :D

You can try it & see it it's bright enough for you.  The clock & alarm are very handy.

That is one perfect SAK then, Im not going to get one though, I think Ill just get one of those little keyring LEDs you have on a lot of your SAKs and attach it to mine, luckily they left the little lanyard ring on the 41 even though its a big tool.

I avoid the "Lite" models.  The lights isn't worth the space it takes up, IMO.  I'd rather carry a separate LED light so I can light things up while I'm using the knife.

Otherwise it's a great tool, and the addition of the in-line phillips driver is always welcome.

I was thinking along those lines as well.

Plus the switch on teh light models is supposedly easy to accidentally activate.  I don't have one myself so I can't say for sure....

I do prefer carrying a fauxton to the SAK "lite" as well.

I'm not a lover of electronics in tools either, especially if it has a flashlight in it.  They never seem to perform very well, so I'd much rather carry a separate flashlight.

And seeing as I gotta go through some sort of initiation to join the forum at SOSAK.

We will just let you go thru the many catalogs, the SAK web sites and when you think you have seen it all you will find a model you never saw before.  (You will drive yourself nuts, we don't have to even touch you.)

My advice is to buy an SI (Wenger version of the Soldier) it though has a bail. And then bury your head in the sand because SAKs are like chips you can't stop at one.     CONSIDERED YOURSELF WARNED

I was perfectly happy with my "Camper" until one day I read an article about ALOX then to prove someone wrong I bought a SI and put it thru the paces.

Now I look at non alox models differently. You will know what I mean when you handle and use one.

I do not have the Voyager but I have many other SAKs.. For your first SAK I would get a Huntsman. It is not too big and not too small. Just the right size really!
