Mini Screwdriver / Straight Pin Question
on: October 15, 2012, 12:49:14 PM
The mini screwdriver - the one that screws into the corkscrew - was it ever offered with a Phillips head? Even for the European market? Not that I need one; just curious.

Also, does anybody know the (I assume sewing) industry size for the little straight pin? It seems that all of the headed pins in my sewing set are either too big or too small. I don't want to pay $1.25 each for a part from Victorinox when I can get a 12-pack of headed sewing needles at a store for about $.98
This is gonna hurt...

I've thrown a few different things in there including a sewing needle and a dress makers pin.

I've checked numerous European markets & never seen a Phillips mini for the corkscrew. As far as the pin is concerned, I've found a pin in the sewing kit of the distaff side of my family that's the exact size of the Vic and used that, but after awhile my conscious began to bother me--a genuine Swiss Army Knife w/a non Swiss Army part!!!.  No way. You need a genuuuwine Victorinox "pin, stainless steel" from the elves at Ibach to match a genuine Victorinox product.

You couldn´t have asked that BEFORE i sent the stuff out, could´you?
Did the knifes arrive by now and were the pens teh right size?

Should we deal in teh near future again, I will include a spare Pin, if you need more, i can buy them cheaper and include them, i think.

The pin is a standard flat headed sewing pin- buy a pack of about a hundred for two bucks, and so far all those I've tried have fitted.

I just stick a sewing needle in there, it's hardened so sharp tip last a lot longer than the soft pin. Heat up the end of needle with a lighter to bright red and let air cool, then bend a small section so you can pull it out.

26. Adding a needle or straight pin to the handle
In 1991 Victorinox began putting a straight pin on certain models,
like the SwissChamp and the Compact and the Plus Models of Climber or
Huntsman. Wenger does not offer a pin. To add a pin or sewing needle to
any SAK that has backside tools: Open the corkscrew or phillips driver;
the pin will go into the slanted surface of the scale, 2 needle-widths from
the outside edge of the scale and right against the alox liner, as on the above
knives. Choose a pin or sturdy needle; hold it near the head with pliers,
heat it in a flame (it only takes a moment to get it red-hot), and, with the
pin parallel to the knife, press the point into the slanted plastic surface adjoining
the liner and immediately pull it out. The pin will be coated with
red plastic which you can burn off in the same flame. When cool the pin or
needle will fit in the hole you have made. Close the corkscrew.
It can be seen in a translucent SwissCard that the slot for the
straight pin is curved, flexing the pin slightly to hold it in place. The
pin/needle SAK retrofit depends partly on the closed corkscrew to hold it
in place.
