Introduction

 Have been lurking here for about 2 weeks. Did not want to join unless I thought I could contribute in some way with my own experience.

What really struck me about this site was the affability of the members and often some very witty responses; plus the complete lack of nastiness when members differed. One big happy family.

I live in Kent Connecticut and repair antique clocks for a living which I have done for over 40 years. Before that I installed and serviced oil heating systems. Like many in my generation we grew up servicing cars and trucks.

I am 76 years of age and somehow the appeal of dragging home 15 inch metal working  lathes has left me. Much better to acquire a multitool and put it in a pocket and even then 6 oz. is the limit.

Like most Americans I am an anglophile and find it interesting that so many members are from Britain and other areas of the world. My vocabulary is getting an education. Lots of words that are unfamiliar. One cockney word however, I learned 30 years ago when I was working in a shop in NYC. I had set a pendulum going in a clock and it wobbled. A British coworker turned to me and said it had the doo lallys. Instantly I knew the meaning and thought it perfect.

So in the hope you don't think I have the doo-lallys I will end this.

Welcome to the forum Richard- I own the place and I refuse to allow it to go the way of many other forums where folks can't communicate civilly.  We have our moments, as I am certain you have seen, but all in all I have always believed that a forum should be a community, and the only way to let that develop is to let folks express themselves without fear of reprisal. 

I also worked on clocks and watches some time ago, but I have considerably less than 40 years' experience!

As for not having anything to contribute, this forum is all about letting each person voice their opinions and preferences on the tools they use and collect.  I can't think of anyone better than you to provide information on what you like and don't like!

I carried a Micra for about 3 years and really had no interest in other tools. Then one day in Walmart I happened to see the Suspension in the case and asked to see it. I liked the look of it but it was too heavy and the tools looked badly designed. I looked at a Kick and it was obvious that the tools had been given a lot more thought. I bought it. I have since added a Fuse and a Gerber MP400. Leatherman is clearly superior. Playing with the Leatherman tools I could see little things that added to ease of use. For instance, the fuse lets you open a tool about 10 degrees before resistance is felt which makes for easier opening; to do which required some careful planning on the cam action of the tang of the tool. The Micra is also full of things that reflect good design. As for a favorite the Micra still gives the most bang per oz. of any tool I can think of despite it not being heavy duty. If I carried  one of these tools for everyday work then of course it would have to be the Fuse. I am still amazed that many members use these tools in a heavy duty manor in place of more dedicated tools and get away with it. Doing house calls on clocks I probably could get away with using either large tool along with a syringe of oil and a light on most jobs.

The Fuse is a good rig. Scissors and locking blades that the Kick doesn't have, but narrower and lighter than the Blast.
