Traveling with your multitool
on: March 06, 2008, 03:00:13 AM
So i'm going on vacation in a couple of weeks and i want to bring my Wave with me(airline). Should i just leave it at home or risk taking it with me in my checked luggage. Think they will take it? Sure would hate to loose it to some TSA stormtrooper but would feel kinda bare without it.

What are your thoughts?

You're going to be just fine if you put it in your checked bags, there's no rules about knives/tools for them. Don't try to take it carry-on though, or you'll probably see it pop up on ebay before too long- and you won't be the seller. ::)

Get a thin wire with a lock on it like the kind people use on bicycles and thread that through the lanyard hole, and onto a part of the inside of your luggage.  Or better yet, thread it through the hole on one of the blades.

Sure, a TSA punk can cut away a fabric/plastic part of your luggage, but now he's got a Wave attached to a foot of wire...kind of hard to pocket discreetly.  And having it locked to the suitcase pretty much bursts a theives' bubble on stealing it since it isn't so easy as grabbing and pocketing in a total of 2 seconds.

Yea I can see me getting tackled trying to bring it onboard. Every since i was in the military every time i try to get on a plane i get yanked to the special security area and get the extra security treatment. I wonder if they know i once had a class 3 license or a concealed carry permit.

I've never had a problem carrying SAKs in check-in luggage.  I fly 6-7 times a year and usually pack 3 or 4 different models.

I would not try because they replaced the blade with a file which has a metal saw on one end and saws are not allowed on aircraft.   It would be fine to carry on checked in luggage.

Def and I each had half a suitcase full of multitools and knives when we came home from the Shot Show a month ago. I was quite concerned, but neither of us had anything come up missing. (checked luggage of course)
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

Many people, if not most have little problems if it's checked in your suitcase, but I have heard some stories of things getting "lost"
even there, I would not bring a valued MT on a vacation/on a plane.

I'd bring a less expensive/less valued one with me, it's not worth losing something that I really like and have no control over in these crazy times...

I took my micra with me to Vegas last week. I decided against taking my new wAvE for fear of some 13 year old TSA punk swiping it. On the return trip  my luggage got the full fist of the TSA. On top when i got home was one on those Notice of Baggage Inspections papers. Nothing missing but it does make you wonder if things go missing sometimes. Hope they enjoyed my boxers after that hike i did in the desert after eating taco bell for breakfast.

Always wait till you get home to do laundry!  :ahhh

I imagine they liked that almost as much as they liked making me take my shoes off after living in O'Hare for a day!  >:D

Killer foot odor?

Wear your shoes for 24 hours straight while walking around in circles if you want to create your own weapon of mass destruction!
