Seen this before?

Hi! My friend has this knife and wanted me to ask you guys, if you know this knife. Have you seen this type of metal inlay before? Is it rare?

Waiting for Jazzbass, Coloswiss, Icanfixthat or Stressmaster5000. Who else did I forget? I am guessing it is a logo.

Yep Im sure all those guys know! :D  To me looks like a spartan from before when they were named 'standard', and that dude image is probably a company logo.  If you're hoping its some rare vintage treasure, I dont think that is the case.  It looks close to the end of its life as well.

I like quirky inlays.  Wayne probably has the largest collection of such. Hopefully he can shed some light.
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

Speak of the devil! >:D

The reamer on that knife was introduced in 1961. The pen blade changed from a clip to a spear in the early 1970s. Also about that time the name changed from Camper to Spartan. Jazzbass can probably date everything to the exact year.

I don't recognize the logo, which doesn't mean much; Stressmaster is much better on those. However the fact that it's rare or unusual doesn't automatically mean it's valuable. There also has to be a demand for it. The basic knife itself is not rare. Given the overall condition of the knife, it's basically a 'beater' to throw in a tackle box.

Looks to me like a Tourist (not a Spartan) from somewhere in the 1963-1965 date range. Never seen the inlay before. Knife itself is not rare.

thanks for all the answers! I also figure it was not rare, but it could be! when I looked close on the man he looked like a fisherman, therefore it is not impossible that it is a company logo, since i live in Norway! (Maybe i can buy it from him now!! :pok:)

When SAK:,  not to start a discussion just to have in mind, if people got old beat up knives then take care of it like its brand new in the box, collectable and valuable is many times difficult, however when one collect have care for all the products you find one never know  :) So very interesting knife and maybe a mystery..What i like the best about collecting is to have this in mind..

PS if one find knives with broken blade then reprofile it and put it in your collection, it still is a SAK

It is not an Astronaut with the spacesuit worn off.  ;)
Earliest is 1973 when the small clip blade went to spear shape.
Worthless because of the scratches and I will give you 20 bucks for it.
Kidding but not kidding.  PM me.

LoL :D

My wife reckons it looks like a boiler suit or perhaps ground crew overalls.

I see from his blog that Wayne isn't well at the moment :(  So perhaps he won't be jumping in on this thread too soon.

I had to make a comment on this one. At first it reminded me about the old Dutch Boy Paints logo  and thought it might be another paint/painter logo due to the coveralls. Can't really spend too much time browsing old logos like I used too.
