Upcoming Plain Edge OHT availability?
« on: March 09, 2008, 08:35:29 AM »
Curious if there's any news of when the new Plain Edge OHT models will be available? I saw the 2008 SHOT Show report over on the SOSAK website and I can hardly wait! That dang combination blade is the main reason I haven't bought a OHT yet. Looks like Victorinox has fixed that!

I would contact Tim at felinevet@sosakonline.com for details on when the plain edged OHT is expected to be in stock.

And don't forget that special run by Swiss Bianco

If the reason you haven't bought an OHT is because the combo edge.
Then my advice is go ahead and buy it try out the blade (I speak from experience)
and if you don't fall in love with it then Def will buy it from you (for a reduced rate). :D

There's also a pretty simple mod you can do:

OHT Serration Removal

Or if you get real ambitious, there's my One Handed Recurve mod!

The recurve was done by hand with a Leatherman diamond file!  :D

I have done serration-ectomies the same way.

What kind of SS alloy are SAK blades and other implements made of, Def? Thank you.

No one really knows for sure, but it is theorized to be a Sandvik variety.  As seen on the SOSAKOnline FAQ section:

For both blades we use chrome molydenum stainless steel with 0.52% carbon, 15% chromium, 0.5% molydenum, 0.45% manganese and 0.6% silicium. After a sophisticated hardening process at 1040°C and an annealing temperature of 160°C the blades achieve a hardness of RC 56. * The woodsaw, scissors and nail files have a hardness of RC 53, the screwdriver, tin opener and awl a hardness of RC 52, and the corkscrew and springs RC 49. * The metal saw and file, in addition to the special case hardening, are also subjected to a hard chromium plating process so that iron and steel can also be filed und cut. * The separators have been made from aluminium alloy since 1951. This makes the knife lighter and easier to carry in one\'s pocket. Formerly these separating layers were made of nickel-silver.

That blurb is straight from Victorinox.

Meant to post this sooner, but I did receive a reply from Tim @ SOSAK. He mentioned he has an order in to the factory and they advise a May or June delivery.
