New to the site, not new to collecting
on: November 10, 2012, 04:02:45 PM
Hi,

I'm new to the site (I have read many of the reviews on the parent site) but have been collecting multi-tools and knives for years. I got started on multi-tools when I picked up a SOG pocket power plier on clearance from REI. After that I was hooked. A few highlights of my "collection" (such as it is):

- Various SOGs, including the pocket plier, power assist, paratool and several power locks
- Victorinox Swisstool and a couple of Spirits
- Several Gerbers (MP 600, Nautilus, MPT)
- A couple of US made Schrade ST1s & Tough Chips, as well as a Navitool
- Leatherman Wave, Mini-tool, Micra, Skeletool CX, PST, Kick

I have a bunch of oddballs, including the Coleman Pro-Lock, Kershaw A100, Bear Jaws, Craftsman (re-badged Bear Jaws and a Schrade ST1 with slip-joint pliers), Sebertech M3 & M4, BuckTool, Klein, Paladin PT-525, Spyderco Byrdwrench and probably a few others I forgot about or can't find at the moment.

I actually got the collecting bug originally with knives, I love Victorinox and have a bunch of them including several Swisschamps, an alox Soldier, Rescue Tool, Climber, Camper, Rogue, Traveller, Classic and probably a few more. Most of my Swisschamps are part of SOS kits, I have a couple of different variations on the smaller kits (with mini-mag and without) as well as the larger "deluxe kit" that came with the two-compartment sheath that I bought new at Service Mechandise back in the 1980's.

I'm also interested in survival knives and large fixed blades and have a collection of oldies including 2 Marto-Brewers (one short, one long), Tekna Wilderness Edge (several in different finishes/blade styles), several Aitor JK1s, several Kershaw 1005s, a Gerber BMF, Wilkinson Dartmoor and a few Bucks, a 184, 639 and a 119. Some newer additions include a Gerber LMFII, Aitor Commando and JKIII. I'll also admit to owning a Gerber Bear Grylls and a Camillus Les Stroud - the quality is lacking in these two compared to the others, but since they are survival knives (and relatively cheap) I wanted them in my collection.

So, I think the theme here is that I'm all over the map when it comes to collecting... Basically if it's cool or unusual, I might be interested.

Chris

G'day & welcome Chris  :D :D :D

You have some quite rare multis in your collection mate  8) 8) 8)

I reckon you need a Victorinox SportRatchet & a Victorinox AutoTool  :pok: :pok: :D :D. Put those 2 in a sack & you would have quite the set of 'oddballs'  :P :D

I know this sounds odd after the fact, but I totally forgot that I do in fact have one of each of those...The Auto Tool is a semi-recent acquisition, but the SportRatchet I've had since new - it was given to me by a buddy years ago as a birthday gift and it's basically new/unused. Unfortunately I didn't keep the box/instructions like a dummy.

Thanks!

My Dartmoor is one of the newer ones from the early 2000's. I wish it was one of the originals from the 1980's, but those never seem to pop up.

I know - sad that I could forget the tools I have...probably means I have too much stuff. Anyway that "monkey" tool is sweet. How old is it and who makes it?
