I found my grail SAK!!
on: November 11, 2012, 02:43:22 AM
WOOO!

After using a Vic Deluxe Tinker for a long while (like a long while), I've always yearned for file like when I have my full sized MTs.

While poking around my fave eBay sellers I found my perfect SAK!

Behold! The Victorinox Trouble Shooter!

(Not shown are the hook and the awl)

Everything I want and matches my full size MT but in a super small package. It's long since been discontinued but I am going to keep on looking for more.

Now...custom plus scales....

It's always good when you find something you really like (especially if you can afford to buy it)      :tool:

These are pretty common on eBay and easy to find NIB. Search on "Marlboro".

I've been trying. Not as easy as it seems.

Nice find, I hope you are both very happy together. Enjoy!

I'm envious of you guys still being able to buy SAK's on eBay, wish we could in the UK.

None of them do :(

Have you tried asking the seller directly ?

I often politely ask if they will let me bid on items that are labelled "Ships to: US" (unless they specifically state no international sales in the item description, then I don't bother).

I find a bit over half half the ones I ask do let me bid (more if there's not much time left on the auction and there are no or only a low bid.  Here is my usual wording:

Quote

Are you willing to let me bid on this multi-tool ?

I come from a non-scamming country (Australia) and I have excellent feedback as an eBay buyer. I am willing to pay your actual shipping costs (a USPS Priority International small flat rate box to Australia costs $16.95).

Thank you,
Greg C

I find it is definitely worth trying, particularly if you see something that is a bit difficult to find.  The worst they can do is say no or not reply, and no harm done.

Not a fat as a Swiss Champ, that msg glass is useless to me.

The ONLY thing I would trade is an inline Phillips for the can opener.

Since they are hard to find, would it be economical to mod one from a swiss champ (or another bigger model that has the rigth tools)?

It's quite possible. But I don't have the time and assembly jigs (I have all the parts) :)

You dont need a jig, they go together pretty easy.  :tu:  I would like to mod my edc SAK up to try putting the inline phillips opposite the bottle opener as well.  The mag glass is of no interest to me.

Let me know how that goes, I would want to assemble one and maybe mod the t-handle Phillips into a Robbie bit.

I have had the same problem with shippers that don't want to bother sending goods overseas, including Ebay sellers & Amazon.  The solution I went for is to create an account with Shipito (www.shipito.com) which gives me my own USA address that the sellers can send to.  I then have the option of ordering several items from different sellers and once they have all arrived at Shipito I have them consolidated into one box and sent out to me.

That's how I got my 2nd hand Swisstool X from Amazon and several SAKs on special.
