Just won an auction for an unidentified 75mm Victoria knife.
I think it is a 74mm Executive, but I'm not sure? Identification anyone?

Yepp, and SAKWiki actually lists it under the variations:

Quote

  • A smooth Alox scaled version was often used for advertising (Premium sales), but was available without promotions as well. Early models were available with a shackle rather than a keyring.

I was watching that one but decided not to bid in last few minutes. :) Good price too.

I think we simply call it the smooth alox Executive. They were almost always used as advertisment SAKs.

That's a nice one. I would call it an alox Executive, but judging from the single leaf scissors spring it probably dates back to when these knives had model numbers instead of names.

We're watching the same thing :) decided not to bid on it too. It would have been different if it didn't have an advertising print :)

Good win none the less!

Most probably 1970's as mentioned above. Saw it in the catalogs posted in sakwiki.

I have a contribution for this thread. A 1970s Ambassador. The 74mm line has its appeal :)

....

You'll have a hard time finding one without print. Alcan is the most often seen one in black.

Ah ok. So most of the Black smooth Alox Executives have advertising on them? Interesting information. Thanks!

Nice ones.

I don't know why my first thought was 6 patterns.

The second identifier on the wiki has design 9 next to it so that would mean at least 9 patterns. :) I think we had them all listed somewhere, I'll try searching for them when I'm on the computer.

Found it, and it appears that my first thought was correct. 6 patterns. :D (why to I remember these things?   :P )

Thanks very much for the information. I'll have to keep looking for more patterns. Although they are becoming hard to find at all my usual vendors in SA.

I think there may be a few more than six, but those may have only been used on promotional knives.

I hope you don't mind these photos here, but I didn't want to create a new thread for 75mm knives.  ;)

I was actually outbid, but the winner retracted his bid, and I ended up with it anyway. It was a good deal indeed. Still in the mail though...

I got a new addition to my 74mm collection - Escort with the old long nail file.  I've researched the company - RHG Electronics Laboratory, Inc. a bit and a short history can be read in my blog.

I had one (sold it on eBay last week). As much as I like them, I don't collect 58mm SAKs :)

Nice photo, Karl!
