Eric
You should start a thread that contains pics of all the tools you have made. The entire collection.

Oh man...that would be one epic post. I'll see when I am done the next couple of mods.

I think the grips do complete the look of a Wave.
Those with T&T and a Bluntnose might convince me to stray from my MP 600.
And I´m looking forward to the shears being put into service.
Will the material be strong enough or is the  SS 3d print still only a proof of concept?

It's still a proof of concept. There are some tiny details that would need some tiny end mills when being CNC.

my aluminum ones were fun and they worked great. The hardest part is attaching them. If I was more brave, I would go with JB Weld or something simliar.

Thinking about this and I wonder if you drilled a 2.5 mm hole in both and use a old Alox pin if you could peen the other side?
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

SOO jealous!  I love my surge, and I cannot wait for the new surge in a few months, but this is a super cool mod!  I do not love the Surge because it is heavy duty, I love it because it has everything I want, and a REPLACEABLE saw and file is on top of the list.  I do not have to worry about ruining them, I can just buy more!   :ahhh

Great work,  with I had the tools, and the knowledge (and money) to do stuff like this
If I can help, let me know

There is too much going on underneath that area. The split knife pins, the rivet for the tool lock back spring. Adhesive is the way to go here.

best mod i've ever seen. i really like the handle part that you put there with the toothpick and the tweezers, i think you could add a another piece like that on the pocket clip, make it a little bit bigger and you could add a SA pen.  :gimme: :gimme: :gimme:  :salute:

  Well done sir!  :2tu:

I could go for one of them, 'cept keeping the can opener. Though a push opener would be preferred, though not seen anything past a Vic knife that has that.

Wanted to waste some time in the shop late on a Friday night.

Chucked up some 6061 and milled out some grips. The jimping isn't as nice, I only have 7/32 ball mills at the moment.

Here is fresh off the mill, test fitting.

After a 100 grit sand paper.

....and after a 400 grit wet sand, installed with doubled sided tape.

I used the blade profiles as a template. So the grips aren't protruding past them, and follow the curve.

The extra filler of the grips makes for a nice meaty grasp when using the drivers. It also solved the problem I was having with the blade exchanger digging into my hand.

Great Mod

I took this one out of enki_ck's book:

VIC SCISSORS!

Easiest scissor mod, no need to pin anything, just simply needed to bore out the pivot hole from 3mm to 7/32. Again, carbide bits made this easy. Since I already pushed in the liner lock so it wouldn't push up against the scissors, this was a simple drop in.

Seriously....no mods whatsoever.

(Image removed from quote.)

The Vic's scissors are going to leave plenty of room for the ferro rod, whenever they get here..

(Image removed from quote.)

(Image removed from quote.)

They are a pleasure to use like all Vic scisssors, not as cool or as crisp as the Gerber ones but these are much more accessible and cheaper. A simple, even used SAK can be used to harvest a pair.

(Image removed from quote.)

(Image removed from quote.)
Im quoting way back here.

What size scissors (or what model sak) did those come out of?

And they are NOT locking correct?

I believe they are standard 91mm scissors and yes not locking because the liner lock has been pushed in.

Tweezers and Toothpick/Knife grips

After failing twice at manually milling this piece from a couple of small scraps of titanium, I gave in a went digital. I've toyed with adding a plate on the sides for extra grip. I had a mildly successful attempt when I made my own "Flair", AKA The Panache. A brass plate was added, jimping was hand filed...this will be so nice.

(Image removed from quote.)

What you are looking at are two plates that will be epoxied on the flat surfaces on the Commander, what you don't know is that they are getting printed in alumide and black plastic (for now at least) from Shapeways.

(Image removed from quote.)

These plates serve a much more Swiss purpose than just aesthetics. Not only are they grips and jimping for the use of the outside tools, the two hollow cavities will be hold a set of Vic Classic Tweezers and Toothpick!

(Image removed from quote.)

Here's a visual reference of how the T&T will sit.

(Image removed from quote.)

The hole and gap in the bottom will accomodate the rivet on the side of the Commander, this also serves as a pressure point to hold the tweezer and toothpick. Here's a really bad rendering...the T&T will pull towards the knife pivots.

(Image removed from quote.)

I ordered a set of black plastic and a set of alumide...over all $20 and should be here by the new year. Once I know they fit, I'll order the polished stainless. I'll need to some hand finishing, I didn't want to fire up SolidWorks...most because this is an extruded shape, but I also didn't want to get into 3D modelling hell.

Metro, I know this is an OLD thread, but Did these ever make it to Shapeways?

Hi Eric!

Sorry that I return this thread on the beginning (in some way), as beginner I need to clarify can I just swap pliers between xTi and Rebar without any additional modification to the pliers or the Charge body?

Thanks!

You can do a direct swap, but the pliers won't fully close unless you remove part of the scissor thumb plate or grind a bit of the plier head by about 2mm.

Guys thanks for the answers. My concern was about the locks of the knifes, the saw & the file when the pliers are in opened position. Look like it would be my first LM modification.

Won't be a problem on the XTi. The Rebar pliers seat properly and allow the blade locks to function normally.

is there somewhere I can get your grip attachments you had on the commander and the wave? I am looking into ways to store extra tools like tweezers on the wave, and I do not want to use the keyring slot, I am also trying to figure out how to carry a second bit on it without a sheath
