Got "Brass" marked out and ready to start on. Should be finished it this week.

Wow, so much for finishing the brass one "this week". that was back in February.

Anyway, necro-thread and all that, but here is "Brass"...  finally

Maybe I can get the next one done before nearly another year passes.

I'm still researching suitable "stone".  I was thinking of one of the synthetic stone benchtop materials which are ground stone in a resin binder, or perhaps I can get a sandstone flooring tile but I think they are quite thick. then there is the "problem" of working it...  much Googling to do still on this problem.

Talk to some jewlers maybe.  I see some of the top designers now using crushed stone in good resins so they can get get a high quality finish in a stone that is easier to work with in design.  The price of some of this stone is as expensive as the natural.  Torquise is one that seems to have a fair bit of knowledge since the good mines are getting very depleted, but demands remainds... so the artificial synthetics are increasingly being used even in the most expensive pieces.

It will be awesome to see a new addition to this collection.

I think rotokid did one in torquise. Check his pics on swissarmyknights.

Nephite or Jadite would be choice!  I know GE formulated artificial jade back in the 50s but I do not know if it was ever produced.

Jade Sak, very very deluxe.

I should have picked up some greenstone when I was in NZ in May.
But I did pick up some Paua shell pieces.

I have some "Water Clear" casting resin and plan to make up a mold to cast scales so I can embed pieces of the shell in them.
I also have some of the photo-luminescent powder so I can cast my own stay-glow scales.

just as well I still have 3 or 4 recruits in waiting. :)

What, just because it's not "real" ebony you're all going to ignore it?

Actually Queen Ebony ( Xanthostemon melanoxylon ) comes from the Solomon Islands and is known by many names.
Solomon Blackwood, Pacific Blackwood, Pacific Ebony.
It's more of a dark chocolate brown, but it does get darker as it ages exposed to air.

Paua is on hold, but I did order some of this...

and this

so Turquoise and MOP should be joining the ranks plus a couple of other model SAK's in these materials.

Got some of the resin blanks too, one in woodland camo and one in topaz water. looking forward to having a play.

BLING...  and technically this one has a Cadet toolset. The small blade from the donor had a nasty nick in it and I had the nail-file in my spares box.

"Truestone" Turquoise #20 from beartoothwoods.com with Nickel-Silver pins.

Just bought 4 more cadets off the Bay. So I'm set for MOP, Topaz Water, Rubber and "something else".
Also found one more lurking in a dark corner in plain red Cellidor scales. ugh.

If I count the Victorinox Rollerblade Recruit I have already got to 20.
21 if I throw in the "Double Recruit with Scissors" mod.  or would that be 22?

My next dilemma is what order do I display them in?  I was thinking Stone and the Woods at one end, Titanium and Carbon-fibre at the other with the various metals and composites between.

I just hope there is some ordering that I can think of that is OCD friendly or I'll be rearranging them constantly.
